  Present Time   Elorshin met Yelena’s eyes across the kitchen as she collected her father’s breakfast tray. He inclined his chin slightly but did not interrupt his song. The kitchen was busy as the servants and slaves prepared breakfast for the household. Yelena’s stomach rumbled at the smell of the flat cakes that Arithen tossed over the fire.   By the door to the kitchen gardens, the children and the beggars gathered hopefully.   “Our guests have departed,” Arithen murmured as she added the just finished flat cake to the tray. “And Warren’s fever broke overnight. He is eager to eat this morning. Hopefully the wound will now heal and in a few weeks, he will regain his strength.”   “That is good news.
