The decision to eat had been a hard one to make after all. But if I'd been exhausted after doing all the spiritual exploration I had done, then Maxx was exhausted from his emotional upheaval as well.
What had I been thinking? Of course, he was exhausted. He'd discovered something horrible growing inside of him. Or, if it wasn't growing, then it had been buried inside him all the same. Why hadn't I seen the toll that would take on a person earlier than I had?
Credit to Maxx that he had held on as long as he did. Even if it hadn't taken him long to break into tears, he had still remained composed for longer than I could under his circumstance.
