When the fighters got one of those suckers on the ground, they rejoiced like they had won the lottery. I said those machines are built with the idea that they will be shot at. They are also built with the idea that they can crash. Pilots are important assets and they are protected.
Their compartments are reinforced and padded have a complex of straps and such to hold the guy in place. The pilots themselves wore protective flight suits and helmets and whatnot. They never seemed to figure out that the worst thing that could happen to a Hind pilot up there was to survive a crash.
