One of the interesting aspects of bank robbery that they do not teach in high school civics class is that everybody is motivated to lie. If your bank is robbed, that means any amount of money missing can be ascribed to the robbers. You can walk into your own vault and stuff whatever is left into your pockets and who will know or care? The robbers took it. If you have been embezzling, the slate is wiped clean, and shortages are blamed on the robbers. Made some bad investments? Juggle the books a little to call that money cash, and boom, it never happened.
