What a memorable weekend for Jae-sun—Fourth of July. Billy invited him to stay at his house for the weekend, the first time Jae-sun had ever been away from his parents overnight; twelve felt old enough to him. The Johnsons took Jae-sun to a picnic with gunny sack races, watermelon-eating contests, softball games, and all the food you could eat. Jae-sun was becoming very aware of civics, and he enjoyed all the tradition and festivities of America’s Independence Day.
