Karren's POV As I walked away, one thing was certain in my mind, I didn't owe the demons an explanation of her death…. I wondered what would have happened if she actually drowned.. The path back to my chambers wound like a shadowed ribbon between the towering trunks. I was halfway through the walk, when something made me stop. It was a faint sound carried on the wind, half laughter, half a stifled gasp. I tilted my head slightly, my senses sharpening. I heard it again… it was a low, playful growl followed by a softer, almost musical giggle. I drew in a breath through my nose, sorting the scents in the air.
