The world blurred as Ryker and I stumbled back into the heart of our territory, we were half-dragging and half-supporting one another.
My fur was matted with blood. Ryker’s left leg buckled with each step, torn deeply from a bite he had barely managed to shake off. We breathed heavily..
The instant our paws crossed into safe ground, soldiers rushed forward, their alarmed voices breaking through the haze.
“Alpha!” one of them shouted, sprinting forward to catch me as my knees nearly gave out. “Get them to the physician’s court, now!”
I felt hands grabbed at us.
I didn't resist, I shifted back into my human form. Ryker collapsed beside me, his face pale but his jaw clenched tight in defiance.
