Karren’s POV I dismissed the guards with a simple wave. They bowed, turned, and dragged her broken form away, bloodied, weak, yet still defiant. I didn’t let my expression change, even as her whispered words echoed behind them. “I should have murdered you instead.” The door slammed shut. For a while, I sat motionless on the throne, elbows resting on the armrests, eyes staring past the marble floor, past the pillars, past the memory of her lying there like a discarded doll. I couldn’t move. My fingers clenched the lion-head carvings on the throne so tightly the wood groaned beneath them. I know she hated me now… that's what I wanted.
