I still froze at the way Selena was insisting I take the drink.. . I stood there, droplets of water sliding down my chest, staring at the spilled liquid seeping into the cracks. I was still trying to figure out what type of walk she would go for two days and not tell anyone, and now this..
Something was definitely wrong. My instincts never lied.
She had looked at me as though I were a stranger.
Although I was glad for the space, it was still awkward.
I started to perceive a foul smell..
I bent down, touching the wet stone with my fingers, then raised them to my nose. A faint bitterness lingered.
It smelled like poison.
My jaw clenched. The woman who once clung to me for protection, the woman whose eyes softened when she looked at me, had tried to kill me.
But why?
