Amelia huffed again, she probably knew this was reverse psychology or maybe not. But what I told her was the truth and considering she was still mad at me, she'd definitely come with me so I don't get “excited”.
She seemed to give it another moment of thought but the moment the patter of rain increased its intensity, she parted her lips.
"Just so you know, I'm only getting in because I hate that you get excited by my attitude. That's inappropriate. Especially when we're still in the official area.” Amelia brushed past me, headed towards my car.
I thought I could see a little smile on her face as she walked past.
I soon joined her in the car, I revved the engine and got us going.
Surprisingly the rain seemed to cease as I drove. I could only thank the weather for being a good wingman.
I turned to Amelia who sat beside me with crossed arms. It seemed she didn't enjoy her loss as much as I did.
"Have I told you how much I like your work ethic Amelia? No one has a better attitude to work than you." I complimented her in hopes to start a conversation.
"Thank you," Amelia replied and remained quiet.
I turned back to the road just in time to see another car cut me off as I was making a turn.
I hit the brakes and stopped just in time.
"What the f**k?!”
CHOOSING THE PAST, BREAKING THE PRESENT
“Who blocks someone’s path at this hour of the night?”
I stared through the car window as I wondered who had blocked our path like that.
Anderson unbuckled his seat belt beside me as he mumbled to himself, saying something about his car being scratched.
I didn't blame him because I knew it was an expensive car. But as Anderson opened his door and stepped out, I remained seated and waited behind.
I wanted to know what was going on but I quickly decided that it was for the best if I let Anderson handle it.
I watched Anderson slam the door behind him as he plopped out of the car. He stormed over to the other car and knocked on the window.
I couldn't hear what he was saying but he was clearly really angry.
I turned my eyes up as lightning flashed in the sky.
I wasn't sure that it was going to rain again. That was annoying considering how I had gotten into Anderson's car in the first place because of the rain.
I wanted to avoid him because the last thing I wanted was for me to get emotionally entangled with him. After what had happened to me last time I knew not to get into something like that.
But even as I thought that I got into the car because of the rain, I had the option to wait inside the office until the rain stopped as I had a spare key.
My mind flashed back to how my heart had hitched when he held me in the office.
I closed my eyes as I finally admitted the truth to myself. My worst fear was coming true.
I was falling in love again, and it was with my boss.
Jason's face flashed in my mind. The scar hadn't healed yet.
I wasn't sure that it ever will. But I had to wonder.
I remembered how Anderson had taken Jason's seat at the club. He even held me just how Jason had.
Did I really like Anderson or was I just attracted to him because his actions reminded me so much of Jason?
Was it the case that I still wanted Jason so much that I was hoping that Anderson could be him?
I heard a sudden loud noise from outside.
My eyes shot to the spot Anderson had been standing before. He wasn't there anymore.
My heart skipped a beat as sudden paranoid thoughts filled my mind.
Has something happened to him? What if he had trouble and needed help. I definitely couldn't just sit back here.
I unbuckled my seat belt and stepped out of the car.
The rain hit me in a light drizzle and I saw Anderson’s back as he grappled with an unknown man.
"Anderson! Is everything okay?!" I asked as I hurried over, fearing the worst.
To my utter surprise, I heard laughter as both men released each other from what had been a hug.
The laughter explained the noise I had heard.
I relaxed slightly as I got closer. It seemed Anderson had just met a friend and they were-
My thoughts stopped as soon as I saw who he was talking to.
"What?" My eyes must have been playing tricks on me because I refused to believe that what I was seeing was true.
The man who Anderson was talking to was Jason?
They continued their discussion, seemingly oblivious to me as neither had heard my call.
I watched them for a moment as my mind struggled to believe what I was seeing.
Somehow Jason was here, standing right in front of me and he was friends with Anderson?
There was no doubt about it as they laughed together. I had never seen Anderson smile so wide. They looked happy together.
Anderson was the first to see me.
"Amelia you're out of the car? Aren't you uncomfortable in the rain?" He asked.
"I... oh it's nothing. I was just checking on you." I replied.
Jason turned to me as soon as Anderson called my name. His eyes widened and I knew he recognized me.
"Who are you talking to?" I asked as my eyes remained locked to Jason's. I earnestly hoped he would get the message.
Anderson clapped Jason on the shoulder, "Oh, this is Jason, my best friend."
"Anderson, who is she? You definitely didn't tell me about her." Jason chuckled.
But his laughter looked stiff and forced.
Anderson moved to me and grabbed me by the waist. I yelped slightly in surprise.
"You're right. I didn't tell you about her." Anderson said as he glanced at me. "This is my woman."
"Your woman?" Jason asked. His surprise was real this time.
And I was also surprised. Anderson had really just called me his woman.
He had never done something like that before and yet I remained quiet beside him and gave no objections.
Our relationship was something like that except I was the one fighting it.
Anderson's phone rang from his pocket, he let go of my waist and pulled it out.
"Sorry, I have to take this." He said as he quickly walked away leaving Jason and I standing together.
"Jay." I said as soon as we were alone.
Jason walked closer to me. His eyes looked troubled.
"Amelia I'm so sorry for what happened." Jason said.
Jason went on to explain to me the reason for his abrupt departure.
Even with a reason behind the deed it made no difference to me. But then he said something unexpected.
