A NIGHT TO REMEMBER

1174 Words
Emma had never imagined she would ride through the city in a limousine. She sat quietly beside Alexander, trying not to stare at the luxurious leather seats or the sparkling lights outside the windows. Everything about his world seemed elegant and expensive, yet Alexander himself remained calm and surprisingly easy to talk to. "You've been very quiet," he said with a smile. Emma laughed softly. "I'm trying to convince myself this isn't a dream." "I hope it isn't." His answer made her blush. A few minutes later, the limousine stopped in front of one of the city's most exclusive restaurants. A uniformed valet opened the door while another employee welcomed Alexander by name. "Good evening, Mr. Kingston." Alexander nodded before turning to Emma. "Ready?" She looked at the grand entrance with uncertainty. "I don't think I've ever been anywhere this expensive." "Then I'm glad your first time is with me." Inside, crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling, soft piano music filled the room, and every table overlooked the city's breathtaking skyline. Emma admired everything around her. "It's beautiful." Alexander smiled as they were shown to a private table near the window. After placing their orders, silence settled between them for a moment. "So," Alexander began, "tell me about yourself." Emma took a sip of water. "There isn't much to tell. I lost my parents three years ago. Since then, I've been working to support myself and pay off the debts they left behind." "I'm sorry." She nodded. "It wasn't easy, but it taught me to be strong." "What was your dream before everything changed?" Emma smiled sadly. "I wanted to become an architect." Alexander looked surprised. "An architect?" "I've loved designing buildings since I was a little girl. I even received a scholarship offer once, but after my parents died, I couldn't afford to continue." Alexander admired the determination in her voice. "You haven't given up." "No." "What if you had another chance?" Emma smiled. "I'd take it." Their meals arrived, interrupting the conversation. As they ate, Alexander found himself laughing more than he had in years. Emma told funny stories about difficult customers at the café, and he shared amusing experiences from his first days as a young businessman. For the first time in a long while, neither of them thought about the difference in their social status. To Alexander, she was simply Emma. To Emma, he was simply Alexander. When dinner ended, they stepped outside onto the restaurant's terrace overlooking the glittering skyline. The cool evening breeze gently lifted Emma's hair. "It's beautiful," she whispered. Alexander looked at her instead of the view. "Yes," he said quietly. Emma turned and caught him staring. "What?" "I wasn't talking about the city." Before Emma could answer, Alexander's phone rang. His smile faded as he looked at the screen. It was David. "Excuse me for a moment." Alexander answered the call and stepped a few feet away. David's voice sounded urgent. "Sir, we've got a problem. The media has photos of you having dinner with Emma. Reporters are already asking who she is." Alexander slipped his phone back into his pocket and took a deep breath before returning to the terrace. He forced a smile, determined not to let business ruin the evening. "Everything okay?" Emma asked, noticing the concern in his eyes. "Just work," he replied. "It can wait." She smiled. "You work too much." "I've been told that before." The two of them walked along the terrace, enjoying the cool night breeze. For the first time in years, Alexander felt completely at peace. Emma wasn't interested in his money or his influence. She simply enjoyed his company, and that was a rare gift. As they reached the end of the terrace, Emma stopped beside the railing. "Thank you," she said softly. "For what?" "For tonight. I haven't smiled this much in a very long time." Alexander looked into her eyes. "Neither have I." For a brief moment, neither of them spoke. Their eyes remained locked on each other, and the world around them seemed to disappear. Slowly, Alexander reached for her hand. Emma hesitated for only a second before letting their fingers intertwine. Her heart raced. She had never imagined she could feel so comfortable with someone she had known for such a short time. Just as Alexander leaned a little closer, bright flashes suddenly lit up the terrace. "Mr. Kingston!" "Look over here!" "Who is the woman with you?" Several photographers rushed toward them, snapping pictures from every angle. Emma instinctively stepped back, frightened by the unexpected attention. Alexander immediately moved in front of her. "No more pictures," he said firmly. The photographers ignored him. "Is she your girlfriend?" "Are you replacing Victoria?" "Is there going to be a wedding?" Emma's hands began to shake. "I... I can't do this." Alexander placed a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Don't worry. I'll handle it." He signaled to his security team, who quickly escorted the photographers away from the restaurant entrance. "I'm sorry," Alexander said as they returned to the limousine. "I never wanted you to experience this." Emma looked down at her hands. "I didn't realize your life was like this." "It isn't always." "But it will always be different from mine." Her words stayed with him during the drive home. When the limousine stopped outside Emma's apartment building, neither of them was ready to say goodbye. "I had a wonderful evening," Emma admitted. "So did I." She smiled. "Thank you for dinner." Alexander hesitated before speaking. "Emma... I'd like to see you again." She looked into his sincere gray eyes and nodded. "I'd like that too." A genuine smile spread across his face. "Goodnight, Emma." "Goodnight, Alexander." Emma climbed the stairs to her apartment, unaware that someone was watching from across the street. Inside a black SUV, Victoria lowered the newspaper she had been reading. "So she really matters to him," she murmured. Her driver glanced at her. "What now, Miss Victoria?" Victoria's expression became cold. "If Alexander refuses to leave her, then I'll make sure she leaves him." The next morning, Emma woke to the sound of her phone ringing repeatedly. Confused, she reached for it and saw dozens of missed calls and messages from Lily. Before she could return the call, another notification appeared. Her picture was on the front page of several entertainment websites. WHO IS THE MYSTERY WOMAN STEALING BILLIONAIRE ALEXANDER KINGSTON'S HEART? Emma's heart sank. Within minutes, reporters had gathered outside the café where she worked, hoping to catch a glimpse of the woman who had captured the country's most eligible billionaire. Standing at her apartment window, Emma watched the growing crowd below. She had wanted a quiet, ordinary life. Now, overnight, she had become the center of a media storm. Little did she know, the reporters would soon be the least of her problems, because Victoria had already begun putting a far more dangerous plan into motion.about to change. "I'll handle it," he replied calmly. But deep inside, he knew nothing would ever be simple again.
