Chapter 51 Bradamante leaned against her brother’s house and waited sullenly for Astolpho to apologize. He did not. “I wanted to make sure you were all right.” “Of course I am.” “And Egalite?” “She’ll live.” She hated the sound of her voice—that petulant tone she had heard her mother use so many times. But she couldn’t help it. Instead, she gave in to it. She glared at Astolpho, daring him to say something kind to her so she could throw it back in his face. Astolpho studied the stars. The rain had stopped and the clouds cleared, leaving a brilliant night sky. “I’ve thought of you,” he began. “I’m sure you have. I can see how much you missed me. I could see that when you told the king to make me fight tonight. Thank you for your friendship, Astolpho. I won’t forget your loyalty.”
