Bradamante patted the neck of her borrowed mount, then leaned toward her friend so the others couldn’t overhear. “Don’t worry, Jara. I’m sure he’s going to Ramath. He’ll get there before we find him.” “How can you be sure?” Jara whispered. “I’ll make sure. So will Naldo.” “But Cyrus’s men—” “Don’t worry,” Bradamante repeated. “He’ll be all right.” Gingerly she mounted Cyrus’s dun-colored stallion. She knew her body would complain about its injuries for days—maybe weeks—but she couldn’t refuse her first assignment as one of the king’s warriors. This woman knows how to control her pain.
