Chapter Nine The call came at six-fifteen the next evening, right as Amara was pulling a tray of chicken nuggets out of the oven for Kael’s dinner. She saw Rafael’s name pop up on the screen and set the tray down so fast she nearly dropped the whole thing. “Hello?” “It’s confirmed.” Rafael’s voice sounded off, thinner than usual, like the words cost him something to get out. “Ninety-nine point nine percent.
