Chapter 2.

1755 Words
*Winter* I walk over to my locker to get my stuff out for class. I look through all my books to find the ones I need for Maths. Just as I closed my locker and started walking to class, Hunter came out of nowhere, startling me, blocking my way of walking to class. “Where do you think you’re going?” Hunter said looking me up and down, aggressively grabbing onto my arm. That’s going to leave a mark and I know people are going to question me. “Going to class.” I whispered looking down at the floor, taking in the detail of the floor, I don’t want to see his face. “Why are you going to class?” A smirk was forming on his face, “You can come with me.” He said moving closer to me, wrapping his arms around me, my breath caught in my throat. I was about to try and get out of his hold but Mr White came through the hallway with a new student. “Winter, is everything is okay here?” Mr White asked me looking at me with concern in his eyes. “Yes sir. Everything is okay, my brother is just telling me that I can’t be late tonight. We have family coming over.”  I said moving away from Hunter, still looking at the floor. “Okay then, come with me. I have someone for you meet. This is Sailor.” Mr White said looking back to the new girl behind him. I walk behind Mr White next to the new girl. She looks down at the ground taking in the details of the floor under our feet, the gum and papers that is stuck on the floor from other students who don’t care about how the school looks. I look back at my brother to see that he is still looking at us with anger in his eyes. “Winter, you and Sailor are in the same class for the first two periods although I am not sure about your other classes.” Mr White said looking at both of us, with his hand on the door. He walked in front of us into the classroom with us following behind him. I walk over to my seat and got my books out of bag and immediately started drawing in my books. I didn’t pay any attention to what Mr White said or what the teacher said. Sailor sat down next to me and gave me a small smile. I gave her an even smaller smile back; I don’t want to be rude. After listening to the teacher talk about for an hour, the bell went and I made my way to my locker to put my stuff away. I grab my bag out of my locker and before I could leave the new girl came up to me. “Hey.” She said standing there with her arms full with books. “Hi.” I said standing there feeling uncomfortable, looking down at the floor. “Sorry, you’re in the way of my locker.” She said looking behind me, I turned around to see that there is a new locker underneath mine. “Oh, sorry.” I said moving out of her way and making my way down the hall. “Its fine.” She said looking towards me. I make my way towards the back of the school where my friends and I hang out. “Hey guys, how’s it going?’’ I ask, as I move to sit down next to Mal. “Hey Winter.” Everyone said going back to what they doing before I came over. The chilly wind is poking me all over my body, forcing me to wrap myself in jumper to try and keep the warmth in. I pulled my hood over my face. I was looking around at all my friends, wishing that I could tell even one of them about the abuse that happens daily. They see how skinny I am getting because of the lack of food; they all think it’s because I have an eating disorder. If I eat a lot, I will throw it up. My family gives me food to keep me alive and for people to not ask questions about my weight. My friends always give me something small to eat during the day. I take food from the middle of the table but when I move my head up, I can see someone watching me. I look around to see who it is. My brother left a while go with a girl my age, gross. I look behind me and I see an unfamiliar car. I ignore it and go back to laughing with my friends. “So, are you in, Winter?” Faith asked me, I was trying to pay attention to them. “Sorry?” I turned to face her. She has mid-long brown hair with a stripe of purple hair. She has blue eyes, deeper than the ocean. She holds so many secrets that long to know. “The party tonight?” Naomi said answering the question. Naomi has really short dirty-blonde hair. Her eyes are similar to Faith’s, but a lighter shade of blue. “Um, I don’t know guys. My parents won’t let me, you know that.” I looked down. I hate that I can’t do anything with my friends except see them at school. It’s not enough for them to like me though. “We know but I figured asking you wouldn’t hurt.” Faith said smiling at me. I give her a small smile. All I’m capable of giving is small smiles, everyone knows they’re fake. The bell went to signal lunch has finished and we leave the table to walk to class. I see Sailor sitting in the back row of the class, texting someone on her phone. I move to my seat in the far back right corner, away from everyone and everything. I hear the sound of chairs scrapping on the floor, and footsteps getting closer to me. “Hey.” Sailor said sitting down next to me. Why is she sitting next me? No one does. “Hi.” It came out not even a whisper, I don’t think she could have heard me. Even though she is sitting next to me. The class started to fill up, some people were looking at me and Sailor wondering why she is sitting to me, in all my classes I sit by myself,  no talks to me. Not even the teachers. Just as she was about to say something, the teacher walked in and started teaching. “Alright, turn to page 150 and start reading and answer the questions at the end.” Miss Baker said sitting down. The room is silence, the only thing we can hear is the sound of pages flipping over or people writing in their books. Before my pen could even come close to the paper, a note got put under my pen. I put my pen down and read the note. ‘You don’t talk much, don’t you?- S’ I turn to look at Sailor and see she is looking at me with her big brown eyes, I can see in her eyes that she wants to get me to talk. I don’t open myself to others, I wish and wish every day I could tell me friends. I just shake my head at her and turn back down to look at psychology book. Another note once again, lands on my book. ‘That’s okay, I just want to hear your voice and get to know you and not from other people who say s**t about you.’ I want to talk to someone else but if I do, I fear I spill everything to them. I have gone years without talking to someone who cares about me, apart from my friends. Tears stay to fill my eyes; I can’t hold them this time. I take my stuff and run out of class. I hear the teacher yelling at me to come back to class, but I can’t. I walk through all the hallways and I find my spot where I sit when I want to be alone. *********** I walk out of the school grounds and make my way past all the familiar buildings and houses on my typical walk home. I put my headphones in and keep my head down looking at the footpath. I can’t shake the feeling of paranoia that someone is following me. I look up and turn around. It’s the same car I saw before and there are guys getting out of it. I continue walking, trying to ignore it but still keeping my guard up. After 10 minutes of walking, I can hear the faint sound of shoes hitting the gravel on the ground a few paces behind me. I hide behind a wall with boxes and garage bags in front of me, just in case they’re following me. I stay still hoping they don’t turn, but clearly, I am prone to bad luck. “Find her!” A deep, angry voice commands to the other men. I’ve been hiding for at least 2 hours when I begin to hear footsteps. I hear at least 2 sets of footsteps in the opposite direction from me but I hear 2 sets walks towards where I am hiding. If one of the men takes 3 more steps, he’ll be right next to me. 1..2..3… Crap, they found me. I can see a lump on his left hip. Oh my god, It’s a gun. I try and hold my breath but it slips out. The 2 men share a look before smiling at me. The sun is beginning to set and mother will be angry if I do not return home soon. The man next to me has light, messy brown hair with dark green eyes that you can’t look away from. “Hello there, little one.” He kneels down next to me.
