Chapter Seven

ALEXANDER Leaving the dungeons, I instructed one of my warriors to guide Olivia to a place where she could freshen up and change clothes. While I was aware my warriors had questions to ask, they refrained from questioning my choices, understanding that my decisions were final. En route to the training grounds to oversee the activities, I encountered a familiar face among my pack, Amanda Kriss, a beta and a person I have known since I was young. I sighed and halted in my tracks as I came face to face with her. “Where were you heading to?” I inquired, as the path she was on led to the dungeons. “I went to your office and I was told you went to the dungeons. Is what I heard right? You left a vampire alive?” Amanda asked in obvious disbelief. I exhaled deeply and just looked away, since I owed her no explanation on my decisions. The only thing I cared about, the only new interest in my mind was Olivia Harris. She carried an enigma all around her. “Alex, I'm talking to you. Why did you save that vampire? Who is she to you? You've never had any mercy on any vampires whatsoever so why is she different?” Amanda persistently inquired, clearly frustrated by my lack of attention. Releasing an exasperated sigh, she continued, “Regardless, why do you consistently treat me unfairly, Alex? You very well know about my feelings toward you and very soon, we will be formally united as spouses. Then why do you keep hovering yourself around those loose women? Shouldn't I be enough for you?” I regarded her with an expressionless stare, shook my head, and walked away. How can I have anything to do with her when I have my mate? Even though I don't see myself accepting her, I still can't help but feel obliged to. I thought the moon goddess had forsaken me, only for me to realize she had entangled me with a vampire. What did she think will happen when she does that? Did she truly believe it could extinguish my animosity toward vampires? Her assumption was a complete mockery. I'll prove to her that there's nothing she will do that will stop my rage. I will kill off those vampires from the face of the earth. Even my mate if she dares stand in my way, damning whatever it is that is mysterious about her. In no time, I arrived at the edge of the training field located in the western borders of my pack. Sometimes, I come here to oversee the training sessions. As I arrived there, I watched intensely, my restless steps paced back and forth along the sidelines, gaze fixated on the intense sparring match unfolding before me. In an unexpected turn, one of the combatants was caught off guard by the other two, prompting me to bellow in my resonant, commanding voice, "That's how you meet your demise on the battlefield, Mack! Where is your sixth sense?!" The warriors swiftly acknowledged my warning with a respectful bow before resuming their training. I shook my head in disappointment, then my eyes glazed over momentarily as my mind was interrupted by a telepathic connection from my beta, Mason. Shifting my stance, I established a mental link with Mason, my frustration palpable in my deep and gravelly voice that had been strained throughout the training session. "What is it?" I grunted, unable to suppress my impatience. Although the sight of my mate was soothing, it still kept me on edge as I pondered on what to do. "You need to come to the pack house immediately," Mason urgently relayed. I furrowed my brow. "A command, is it? Why?" I asked with a touch of disdain in my tone. “The Council Elders have arrived, Alex,” Mason replied hastily, the urgency in his voice matching the gravity of the situation. I tensed, a distasteful expression etching itself onto my face. "Why have they come?" I muttered to myself, a surge of anger flickering in my eyes. My wolf, Blaze, remained silent, and I know he was irritated by my dismissal of our mate. He needed to understand. Pushing aside my inner agitation, I disregarded my wolf's frustration and made my way from the training field toward the pack house. In the hallway outside my office, I saw Mason and George, my gamma, patiently waiting for me. "They're all inside," Mason informed him. Annoyance tightened my jaw, but I strode into my office nonetheless, with my beta and gamma following closely behind. Within the confines of my room, five elder werewolves from the council were seated, their presence a formidable sight. I approached my chair and took a seat, flanked by Mason and George standing steadfastly on either side. Then I cut straight to the chase, my tone devoid of pleasantries or unnecessary formalities. "Let's skip the niceties and get to the reason behind this unexpected visit," I stated firmly. It was clear to everyone that something important had brought them here. Hopefully, it's not about Olivia.
