Chapter three

ALEXANDER The scent of s*x overwhelmed my senses as I rose from the bed. Casting my gaze upon the two women beside me, I couldn't help but feel a sense of disgust. They had served their purpose, allowing me to indulge in my desires without restraint. Women like them were easy to bed, their lack of resistance enabling me to unleash my anger upon them without consequence. Yet, after satisfying my carnal desires, I couldn't help but feel a sense of emptiness and revulsion. Their willingness to submit so easily cheapened the experience, leaving me with a bitter taste in my mouth. As I had said, they had fulfilled their purpose, and now it was time to dismiss them. Walking naked across the room, I made my way towards the shower, turning on the faucet to let the water cleanse both my body and my thoughts. Engaging in casual encounters with women held no significance for me. Aside from my duties as an alpha within the pack, there was little else to occupy my time. At thirty-one years old, I remained mateless, a punishment, I believed, bestowed upon me by the moon goddess. Of all the alphas across the country, my name was etched in history as the one who had slain the most, a reputation that instilled fear in others—except for one. Although I suspected he was merely digging his own grave. Enemies surrounded me on all sides, but it was the vampires whom I despised the most. Those nocturnal creatures, reliant on human blood for sustenance, ventured into human settlements, kidnapping innocent lives to satiate their insatiable thirst. I found their actions barbaric and repugnant. They may brand me as wicked and bloodthirsty, but I reserve my lethal force for those who dare challenge me or attempt to seize what rightfully belongs to me. I did not inherit the alpha title of the Night Walker pack by birthright. In fact, I was never intended to succeed my father after his demise, for he harbored a deep hatred towards me. From a young age, I exhibited strength far surpassing his own, a fact that fueled his animosity. Unfortunately for him, he met his end when the vampires descended upon us, claiming the lives of both my mother and him. My father's passing left me indifferent, but the loss of my mother shook me to my core. She was the sole source of love in my life, and those accursed vampires dared to rob me of her. Ten years ago, even the peace treaty between our species could not quell the inferno of my wrath. At the tender age of ten, my uncle stood poised to assume control of the pack, but I refused to idly stand by and accept that fate. His actions incited a rage within me that defied explanation. I ended his life, as well as the lives of his entire family, claiming my rightful place upon the throne. It was through acts such as these that I earned the fear of my fellow alphas. To this day, none dare question my authority. None possess the strength to halt my crusade against the vampires. Indeed, I am akin to a king among the werewolves, my name revered and dreaded in equal measure. One day, I will eradicate those vampires from the face of this earth. I will ensure that they are wiped out. I swiftly put on my shirt when I received a mind link from one of my vigilant pack warriors stationed at the outskirts of our territory. "Alpha Walker, we've spotted someone." My brows furrowed. "Who?" "A young lady. It appears she accidentally wandered into our territory." I scoffed dismissively. "Accidental or not, eliminate her." "However, there's something peculiar. Her eyes, they're not like those of a vampire. They're golden, similar to ours but lighter. Despite having other vampire-like attributes, her eyes are distinct." "Do what you must. I'm on my way," I replied, severing the mind link. Then, I established a mind link with my beta, Mason. "I've just been informed about a vampire in our territory, Alpha," Mason promptly informed me. I nodded. "Join me there." "Yes, Alpha." The mind link ceased. As I prepared to leave, slipping on my shoes, I heard my name spoken, "Alex…" "I don't want to see either of you when I return, or you'll face the consequences," I threatened, directing my words towards the two individuals who had called out to me. With that, I strode out of my room, forcefully slamming the door behind me. Approaching the outskirts of our territory, a scent greeted my nostrils. There was a faint aroma of incense or floral fragrance, reminiscent of an embalmed corpse, confirming the presence of a vampire. However, the scent was too feeble to ignore, piquing my curiosity. Drawing nearer, the scent dissipated entirely, only to be replaced by the sweetest aroma, stirring my wolf within, chanting the word "mate" repeatedly in my head. Without warning, I seized the werewolf who was about to attack the lady and flung him aside, his body hitting the ground with a whimper. The girl's eyes fluttered open, and she locked gazes with me. Surprise registered on her face, but it was overshadowed by my own exasperation. I had given up hope of finding my mate, only to discover that she had been a vampire all along? "How dare you?" I exclaimed, my annoyance palpable. It wasn't just because she had ventured into my territory; it was mostly due to the fact that she had revealed herself to me. The audacity of my mate to set foot in my domain as a vampire infuriated me. With anger seething within me, I lashed out, "You dare trespass into my territory, you vampire filth," Her expression betrayed fear, yet I paid it no mind. This was a situation I couldn't accept. How could the moon goddess punish me in this manner? She couldn't be my mate—no way! In response, she stammered, "I'm sorry." As if those words could rectify the situation. This was utterly unacceptable! "Alpha…" I heard the voice of my beta as he approached my side. "I don't think there's any need to engage in conversation with this vampire. Let's just kill it and cast it out of our territory." A lump formed in my throat upon hearing his words. Although I maintained a stoic expression, deep down, I knew I couldn't bring myself to end her life. It wasn't solely due to the intoxicating scent enveloping my senses, but also because my inner wolf was howling joyfully, ensuring I made the right decision. Vampire or not, she was undeniably my mate. "Take her to the dungeon," I commanded. "What?!" Both she and Beta Mason exclaimed simultaneously, displaying their clear disapproval of my choice. However, I couldn't waver in my decision. "Alpha, we don't spare the lives of vampires. We eliminate them on the spot." Beta Mason stated the obvious. If only he comprehended the truth. My gaze narrowed as I finally comprehended the aspect my pack warrior had mentioned. "But this one is different. Look at her eyes.” I disclosed, finding it undeniably captivating. Suddenly, she blinked, and her eyes transformed into a shade as blue as the midwinter sky. It was a sight both striking and beautiful. Internally, I scolded myself. Damn it! Pull yourself together, Alexander! She then pleaded with me, her gaze filled with desperation. "I apologize for trespassing into your territory. It was never my intention. Please, I beg you, do not imprison me." she pleaded fervently. She appeared so innocent, and I couldn't help but wonder how she had arrived in my domain alone and without fear. Yet, I couldn't give in. First, I needed to determine what to do with her. I had to think. With an indifferent scoff, I declared, "I show no mercy to unwanted intruders who cross into my territory, especially vampires. Let us see how you fare in confinement." Then, I turned to Mason, who appeared perplexed. "Take her and lock her up. Vervain should quell her feisty attitude." I referred to her as feisty because, despite her frail appearance, she had managed to defend herself against my warriors. One of them still groaned on the ground, clutching his stomach where she had clawed him. Curiously, I wondered why his recovery was taking longer than expected... With that, I walked away.
