ALEXANDER. Coming to terms with the fact that my mate was a vampire proved to be an ongoing struggle, leaving me uncertain if I would ever fully embrace this unfamiliar reality. It felt as though the moon goddess herself was exacting punishment upon me for transgressions I had not even committed knowingly. The inevitable revelation of my vampiric mate to my pack loomed before me, casting doubt upon how they would react to the truth. These creatures, whom I despised with every fiber of my being, would now be forever intertwined with my fate. Beyond the confines of my pack, I pondered how the rest of the world would perceive this unforeseen alliance. I knew all too well that my connection to a vampire would become fodder for ridicule and mockery. It would undoubtedly spark a frenzy of gossip and speculation throughout not only the western region of our country but potentially reverberate across the entire globe. However, I couldn't care less about the opinions of others. I never have, and I never will. So let them all go to hell and decay! Letting out a sigh, I settled back into my chair, but my mind refused to let go of her. Thoughts of her consumed me entirely. It went beyond the mere fact that she was my mate; there was an undeniable air of uniqueness surrounding her. Her mesmerizing golden eyes, the incident involving one of my warriors, and her refusal to indulge in human blood— it all painted a portrait of a mate who stood out in an extraordinary way. But what sets her apart? And why in the world was she locked up in the first place? When she disclosed that information to me, a flicker of anger stirred within me, compelling me to seek further understanding. However, for the time being, I reluctantly decided to leave things be, although a part of me yearned to unravel the truth. Despite the surreal aspects surrounding her, I am compelled to uncover the truth behind her confinement. It is imperative that I gather every intricate detail about her. A knock on my door drew my attention, and I instinctively turned towards it. I recognized the presence of my beta, Mason Grant, and I was well aware that he was likely eager to ascertain the reason behind my decision to spare the vampire. "Come in," I invited, and the door swiftly opened. Beta Mason approached me, his eyes brimming with curiosity, and respectfully bowed before getting straight to the point. "I'm certain you are aware of the purpose of my visit, Alex. There is talk among the people. Why on earth did you choose to spare that vampire? Regardless of her differences, she remains a vampire!" I clenched my jaw in frustration, feeling a sense of annoyance at his apparent questioning of my decision. If Mason wasn't my beta and a trusted friend, granting him the privilege to address me by my name, I might have taken a different course of action that I wouldn't have regretted. Suppressing my irritation, I replied curtly, "I have my reasons." Mason's brow furrowed as he posed his next question, "Is it because of her eye color?" I shook my head, my eyes narrowing as I contemplated the situation. "No. Levi, the warrior who was gravely injured by her, struggled to heal properly. He confronted her and later approached me, explaining that the doctor had revealed his healing process resembled that of a human. It appears that the vampire's claws pose a threat to our kind." Mason furrowed his brow, clearly perplexed. "That's strange. But if she poses a threat to us, shouldn't her elimination be necessary? We cannot allow someone who is harmful to our kind to freely roam." My anger flared, and I glared at him intensely. "She cannot be killed, Mason!" I asserted firmly. "She cannot be killed because she is my fu¢king mate!" Mason's jaw dropped in shock, mirroring the very emotion I anticipated him to experience, as it mirrored my own. I was still struggling to come to terms with the revelation myself. "Your mate?" Mason repeated my words incredulously. "That's...unexpected." I nodded in agreement, acknowledging the unexpected turn of events. "Exactly, Mason. That is precisely why she cannot be harmed. Moreover, there are other peculiarities about her that have caught my attention. Her unique eye color, her actions towards the warrior, and her refusal to consume blood." Mason's brow arched in astonishment. "She refuses blood? But blood is vital to vampires. They can't survive without it." I clarified, my voice steady. "Human blood, to be precise. She rejected it right in front of me. There's just something..." Before I could delve deeper into the matter, a knock interrupted our conversation. Letting out a weary sigh, I recognized it as my Gamma, George Jones. "Come in," I granted him entry, and he stepped into the room. George approached my desk, carrying a stack of reports detailing the pack's recent activities. I maintained a blank expression as I attentively listened to him, absorbing the information he presented. In contrast to my relationship with Mason, my connection with George, my Gamma, remained somewhat distant, and I couldn't quite put my finger on the reason. He was the type of individual who simply carried out his duties while I allowed him to do so. Assured that everything was in order, I dismissed George, allowing him to exit my office and close the door behind him. Turning my attention back to Mason, I leaned forward and spoke with conviction. "Mason, I have a task for you. I need you to conduct research on vampires with golden eyes. That should provide us with the information we need to understand her better." Mason's expression reflected his intrigue, clearly eager to delve into uncovering the truth about the enigmatic vampire we were dealing with. He nodded in agreement.
