Nina was walking out of her third class of the day with her eyes glued to the ground. She was extremely exhausted having barely slept the night before to work on an important project, and had almost fallen asleep not once but twice in this last class.
As she was walking through the hallway she bumped into someone, she looked up to see that it was one of the guys in her class. " I'm really sorry I didn't see you there", the guy said with a slight smile. He was tall, had blonde hair and sparkly green eyes; he looked like a typical all-girls-have-a-crush on you typa guy.
"It's okay ", was all Nina bothered to answer with. She was about to walk right past him, "I'm Chan by the way" he quickly said, " we're together in pretty much every class"
"Oh... sorry i just hardly pay attention to anyone in particular", she offered him a small smile. " I'm Nina, nice to meet you"
"Nice to meet you too. I actually wanted to ask if u were coming to the party tonight", he asked looking her up and down as if trying to memorise every little detail of her appearance.
"Party?.. wait today is Friday?", she asked looking like she just got some really bad news. She totally forgot about that darn party. She mentally facepalmed as she thought of how she was gonna manage to survive tonight.
"Yeah, i guess you're not that excited to go though are you?" He chuckled
Ninas phone vibrated in her hand, Yuri just texted her that her shift was about to start reminding her to get some lunch before heading to work.
"Hey I've gotta go but it was nice meeting you", she waved at him as she quickly walked away. Well more like ran away but she was panicking, she's late for work and she doesn't have time to stop by for food and above all she can't sleep when she gets home because of that party.
"f**k", she mumbled under her breath as she threw her stuff in the passenger seat of her car before driving away.
Nina got to work exactly 3 minutes late, and she felt a huge wave of relief as she walked into the little coffee shop and spotted one of the owners greeting her with a smile. " you know I won't actually fire you if you're late or anything", said the old woman.
"I know i know, i just feel really bad", she replied as she walked over giving the old woman a hug. She was on very close terms with the woman and her husband. They didn't actually treat her like their employee but as if she was their daughter, they felt that she might need the extra friendliness since she and Yuri were pretty much complete strangers in Seoul.
"Slow down honey no need to rush", she replied patting her cheek softly. "we're rather slow today so take your time and don't worry okay?"
" yeah okay, thanks Heejin", Nina was still not used to calling the woman with her first name like that, it felt too weird but Heejin insisted on keeping things very casual with Nina.
Nina walked to the back room to put her apron on when she was met with another employee, Hyuk. He was about a year or two older than her, soft features and a very cute face. He was very friendly with Nina when they first met that Yuri actually thought he had a crush on her. Nina was totally unconvinced though and kept changing the subject whenever Yuri mentioned it.
"Long day huh?", was all he said as he walked over to her with a chocolate chip muffin and a coffee. Nina took the coffee and gulped down a huge sip without bothering to answer him, "you're a saviour", she said with tired eyes as she bit into her muffin.
Hyuk chuckled as he eyed her amusingly. It would be a lie to say that he didn't think she was cute. It would be a lie to say that he didn't like her, he realised that from the very first time they met. It would also be a lie to say that he hasn't tried to ask her out multiple times before but for some reason he would always get too nervous about it.
"I thought instead of us all getting an earful of Yuri yelling at you for skipping meals I'd just get you something real quick", he explained still looking at her fondly.
"That was a pretty smart decision you made", she said smiling as she bit into her muffin again "I was running late so I didn't have the time to get anything to eat"
It was silent for a few minutes, "You look pretty tired today" he finally said.
"Yeah haven't been sleeping well. We have all these stupid assignments and projects which are due like pretty soon", she ranted. "And as if that's not enough s**t, Yuri decided to drag me to this lame ass party tonight which is just a huge waste of time to be honest"
"A party? That sounds fun, you do need to mingle more with people"
Nina narrowed her eyes at him feeling very attacked, "you sound just like her"
"Well i mean it's true, you're always working or studying like an absolute nerd-
"Okay now you really do sound like her and it's freaking me out, stop it", she giggled as she shoved the muffin wrapper and the empty coffee cup down the trash can.
Hyuk basically froze at the sound, he loved it when she giggled, she sounded so cute.
"I know she wants what's best for me or whatever but I really just wanna sleep you know, sometimes that's all you need", she shrugged as she walked out of the back room to get to the kitchen.
Hyuk was left there to his own thoughts, he still had a smile on his face. He was always really smiley after any sort of interaction with Nina, no matter how small. He snapped out of it though and soon followed her into the kitchen to get to work.
After work Yuri and Nina drove back home to get ready for the party. Nina was still trying to get out of it but Yuri was completely ignoring her, she knew Nina needed this and it was a great chance to finally get her out of her shell.
The minute they arrived home Yuri told Nina to go straight to the shower as they had only 30 minutes to get ready. Nina just groaned as she did was she was told, then putting on some very simple makeup, some concealer and mascara, before throwing on a cropped sweater and some jeans. It was pretty chilly outside and she was not about to sacrifice her comfort for any reason. She let her hair down not bothering to curl it, and finally slipped on her white vans and grabbed her phone to make her way downstairs.
Yuri was definitely dressed a bit more scandalously, showing a lot more skin and having a pretty decent amount of makeup on. But that was pretty normal for them, going to the same place wearing very different clothes.
They walked over to their car, got in and then sped off to the party. The whole way over there, Nina was tapping her foot nervously. She just had a very bad feeling about this party, she wanted to go home. "It will be very boring", is what she kept saying to herself.
But little did she know, that night would be the start of a very huge change in her life.
