A Lover's Quarrel

933 Words
Della feels warmth spread through her body. She never thought she would hear those words come out of Lucas Clarke’s mouth. “You’re welcome.”   Lucas leans in, covering her lips with his again. She tilts her head slightly, as her fingers slide up to bury in his hair. Lucas hums against her lips, his arms looping around her waist. After a couple of minutes of closed-mouth kisses, Lucas taps Della’s lips with his tongue. She obliges, digging her nails into his scalp. He moans, his hands cupping her thighs and lifting her on the table. She wraps her legs around his waist, losing herself in the passionate kisses.    Lucas’s lips travel down her neck, his kisses leaving heat in their wake. Della puts a hand on Lucas’s chest and gently pushes him away. She jumps down. “I mustn't get distracted. I have to finish this task before tomorrow."  Lucas frowns. “What’s tomorrow?”  “I’m meeting Angie and going back to Edison Hall.” Della answers.   “No, you’re not. Della, I thought we agreed.” Lucas’s voice rises  “We didn’t agree to anything. YOU agreed to pull me off Daniel’s lap and take me in the back room.” Della scoffs.  Lucas smirks. “Ah yes. Quite a fond night. If I remember correctly, you certainly didn’t mind being ‘taken' in the back room when you were screaming my name. Della, it is too dangerous. Your mother is alive, how do you know Daniel or his friend aren’t fooling you?”     Visions of Lucas's body rubbing against hers as she moans his name flash through Della's head. She clears her throat and looks into Lucas's eyes.“I have never been involved with the committee! Daniel and Sam are too blinded by lust to figure out who I am.”  Della tries to assuage Lucas's unfounded fears  “No Della!” Lucas pounds his fist on the wood table.   Della flinches.“Are you so jealous that you would get in my way to find answers? Lucas, you don’t command me!”  Caroline bursts into the workshop her eyes frantically looking between Lucas and Della. “What are you two yelling on about? Half of the street can hear you!”  Lucas roars and turns to face the wall. Della defiantly stares at him. She wouldn't get distracted by his messy hair or gorgeous..backside. “It seems Lucas is forbidding me from going back to Edison. I am not allowed to go ‘undercover’ as a lady of the evening. Despite that, it would look suspicious if I were to disappear, never to show my face at Edison Hall again. I wonder what Daniel would think then? Perhaps he will start asking Angie questions? Or look into my whereabouts?”    Lucas turns around his blue eyes ablaze. “ I could care less what Daniel thinks! He touched my woman and is lucky he is not in the hospital!" Della dryly laughs. "Oh! So I am your property then? Yes, the crime lord of the Outskirts could make someone disappear, no?" The lustful gaze in Lucas's eyes is enough to make Della wet. "Is it such a sin to go crazy imagining another man’s hands over you? Or that I’m worried about you walking into a trap?”   Della crosses her legs and glares at Lucas. Now was hardly the time to want to jump in his arms! Della will never admit it, but Lucas Clarke looks attractive when angry. His muscles rippled underneath his clothes and his eyes flash a deep blue hue. Della fights the urge to kiss him until his only concern would be pleasuring her.   Caroline holds up her hands. “Alright, both of you calm down! Della-I understand your logic, but you hardly give anyone else consideration before you act. You ran away and told none of us where you were! What if you are walking into an ambush at Edison?  “Caroline, I don’t think those two men are capable of that deception,” Della argues with the pretty detective.  “What if they are, Della? We don’t know the extent of Ruth and your mother’s schemes. You said you wanted an invite to an Upper-Class party on Daniel’s arm, right? That can’t happen. The minute you walk in your mother will recognize you! I can only imagine Ruth knew who you were when she walked in on your intimate moment with Lucas.” Caroline tries to argue logic.   Della looks at the floor. Caroline is right.  Caroline turns to Lucas. “Lucas, Della is her own woman. It would do you well to not control her. If she refuses to listen, don’t make her!”  Lucas turns back to the wall. The three fall into an awkward silence.“Whatever is going on between you two, please work it out. For all our sakes.” Caroline walks out.   Lucas is the first to relent. “I’m sorry Della. I got caught up in my jealousy.”  Della glues her eyes to the floor. “I suppose I partially blame you for my predicament. I am trying to get past my anger towards you.”  Lucas nods in understanding. “Fair enough. Now, tell me why you want to go back to Edison Hall.”
