"This isn't some trivial sibling competition, Ruth." Della hisses. "This is the life of a community!" Ruth scoffs and rolls her eyes. "Now, sister, brother, and stepfather, I shall take my leave. I do hope to see all of you at Sunday dinner! My husband and I will be waiting." Ruth waltzes out. Catherine keeps her eyes glued to the floor, unable to look at her betrayed family. "Della," she mumbles. "It would be wise to go with Daniel." "I won't." Della darkly chuckles. "Then I will have no choice than to tell the commissioner about Caroline," Catherine states regretfully. Henry looms over her. "Mother, if you so much as utter a word about Caroline, I will never speak to you again." Seeing that she is no longer welcome, Catherine moves out of the building.
