After their passionate encounter, Lucas and Della remain in each other’s arms. “Wow,” Della mutters. “You must have missed me.”
Lucas strokes Della’s back. “Hmm, Perhaps I just needed to claim you after seeing you in another man's arms.”
Della feels her heart pound at his bold admission. “I need to get back out there.”
Lucas tightens his grip on Della's waist. “No. We are heading back home. There is no need for you to be here.”
“Lucas…” A warning carries in Della's voice.
“No! Della, this is ridiculous! Do you know the type of men that frequent here? I couldn’t bear if another one touched you.” He tugs her body closer to his, reveling in the skin-to-skin contact.
“Because you’re courting me?” Della meets his gaze in a challenge.
“Baby, I think we passed courting long ago. You’re my girl.” Lucas’s eyes soften as his eyes meet her fiery ones. There was something about Della being angry...
“I need to do this. I must protect Papa. If I leave Edison, I won’t be able to get any information.” Della holds her resolve.
“You have enough information, Della. Why stay further!” Lucas raises his voice, challenging her resolve.
“I need to know where the meetings are held! Perhaps convince Daniel to take me to one. They killed my mother, Lucas! I want more than information! “Her voice begins to shake. Her logic may not be sound, but it is the only thing she had.
Lucas’s anger dissolves as tears begin to fall down Della's cheeks. He lays his chin and her head, petting her hair. “Why do you have to do this alone? Let me help you or let Caroline help you.”
“Why do you want to help me? I thought I was a conquest.” Della murmurs. No matter how many times Lucas told her otherwise, she still felt like nothing but a long line of Lucas Clarke's conquests.
“You silly girl. When will you understand I care about you! I can’t bear to see you in this state." Lucas kisses Della's head.
Della snaps her head out of his hold. “Really?”
Lucas smiles softly, drifting his lips closer to hers. “Really.”
Della closes the distance, picking up on their passionate kiss from earlier. She places her hands on his chest, tracing the muscles showing through his shirt. Lucas is quick to return her caress, laying her down on the soft couch cushions. His lips bite down on her shoulder, smirking when she moans.
“Wow, Della. Ya really are givin’ excellent service!” Angie’s voice breaks them out of their trance.
Della jumps and begins looking around for her clothes. “I’m sorry, Angie! I forgot about Daniel. Has he been waiting long?”
“Lon’ enough” Angie adjusts her bosom. “Keeps askin’ when yer be done. Wants to say goodnig”
“What does saying goodnight mean?” Lucas growls from the couch.
Angie laughs. “Della, I think yer man is jealous.” Angie leans over and picks up Della's discarded dress. “Let me hel' ya put this on.”
“She’s going home with me!” Lucas announces forcefully. “Tell Daniel that she left early if needed!”
“Calm down, Lucas. I’m talkin’ to Della. It’s up to ‘er ‘ether she leaves. I’ll warn ya, leavin’ and never comin’ back is goin' to raise questions.” Angie warns the redhead.
"I think it's best if I go home with Lucas."Della looks over to the blue-eyed man.
“Alright. I’ll tell Daniel ya had lady problems and won’t be back for a while. How's that?” Angie forces a small smile. She would likely not hear the end of Della's disappearance from Daniel.
“Thank you, Angie!” Della hugs the woman. “We will chat soon, I promise.”
Angie squeezes Della's hand in response. She glares at Lucas. “Mr. Clarke, treat this woman well. Control only works in the bedroo’. Oh! While yer at it, be civil to Caroline, yer girl is attracte’ to both of ya.” Angie glides out of the room.
Della’s cheeks flush pink. How could Angie leave after saying such a statement?
Lucas is watching her reaction, trying to hide his amusement at her embarrassment. He couldn't help but think how cute Della is when she's flustered. “Caroline and I are civil now, Della: We found something we had in common-you.”
Della's head snaps up in response. Lucas chuckles at her confused expression. “I’m not saying it will be easy, but if you have feelings for her, I am sure I can learn to share.”
Della’s eyes widen in surprise. “Lucas…. that is generous.”
Lucas darkly chuckles. “Make no mistake; my generosity ends with sharing you with another man.”
"Understood."
