CHAPTER 2
Lucia'S POV
The air was thick with heat and the scent of sweat as I lay tangled in a silk sheet, my body still trembling from the intense pleasure that had just wracked through me.
My breaths were uneven as every inch of me felt claimed.
"That felt good," Xander uttered, laying beside me, his bare chest rising and falling steadily as his hair spilled across the pillows. Even in the low light, he looked so handsome.
I traced circles over his chest as my heart swelled with love for him.
It's been two months now since I and Xander have been together, I still couldn't believe it as it felt like a dream.
But something bothered me deeply. I bit my lip, hesitating before finally gathering the courage to speak.
"Xander?" I murmured softly.
"Hmm?" His voice was deep, lazy, almost satisfied as he turned to look at me with his piercing blue eyes.
"Why…" I paused, but then I forced myself to continue, "Why haven’t you marked me yet?"
The question hung in the air and the atmosphere between us instantly changed.
Xander’s relaxed expression hardened and his jaw tightened slightly.
"You’ve been asking me this for weeks, Lucia," he said, exhaling sharply as he ran a hand through his hair.
"Because I need to know," I pressed gently, propping myself up on my elbow, "We’ve been together for two months now. You said I was yours, that I belonged to you, but… you still haven’t marked me. Why?"
He turned away from me, sitting up as he reached for his pants. "Not now."
"Then when?" I asked, my heart squeezing painfully in my chest, "I thought…" I swallowed the lump in my throat, "I thought you loved me."
"Lucia," Xander sighed heavily, rubbing his chin as if I was exhausting him, "Stop pestering me about this. I will mark you when I’m ready."
I flinched at the sharpness in his tone, "So, you’re not ready now?"
"No," he said flatly, and his words cut deeper than I expected.
"But…" I sat up and clutched the sheets around me, "You said you wanted me. You said I was yours."
"You are mine," he said, standing up and pulling on his shirt, "But that doesn’t mean I’m ready for a serious relationship or marriage."
My chest ached at the way he said the word like it was something he wanted to avoid at all costs.
I swallowed back my emotions, trying to steady my voice, "Then what am I to you, Xander?"
He paused, and for a long moment, he didn’t answer. That painful silence told me everything.
Tears burned at the back of my eyes as I forced myself to ask, "You don’t want me as your Luna, do you?"
Xander exhaled harshly as he frustratedly ran a hand through his hair. "Lucia, can we not do this right now?"
"Of course," I laughed bitterly, "Because the moment I ask for something real, you shut me out."
"I am taking you seriously," He said with clenched jaws, "That’s why I’m taking my time with this. You don’t understand the pressure I’m under, I can’t just rush into marking you."
"But you can rush to sleep with me?" The words slipped out of my mouth before I could stop them.
Xander's gaze snapped to mine coldly, full of warning. "Stop pushing me, Lucia."
I felt instant regret as I genuinely didn't mean to make him angry. I didn’t want to fight with him, I hated that.
"I'm sorry," I whispered, reaching for his arm with trembling fingers, "I didn’t mean to upset you. Please… don’t be angry."
Xander sighed, but the hardness in his eyes didn’t fully disappear. "Why do you always do this?"
"Do what?" I blinked.
"Push me, question me, when you know it’ll just lead to an argument." His gaze darkened as he stared down at me, and just like that, the frustration between us turned into something else entirely.
Xander's hand suddenly gripped my chin, lifting my head up.
"You drive me insane, Lucia," he murmured.
I swallowed hard, my breath hitching as his lips hovered just inches from mine.
"Xander…"
He silenced me with his mouth, kissing me with a force that sent a rush of heat through my veins.
His hands were rough, demanding, and before I could think, I melted against him and surrendered once again.
…
I woke up later, my body still sore from the night before.
But something felt… off.
I reached out, expecting to find Xander’s warm body beside me but my fingers met cold sheets. My stomach twisted as I realized he was gone.
Hmm, he probably had some royal duties to tend to. I couldn’t expect him to stay in bed all day with me.
I sighed as I sat up and reached for the remote. I switched on the TV, hoping to distract myself from the ache in my chest.
The minute the TV turned on, my eyes widened and I froze instantly.
The news broadcast displayed a massive image of me on the screen. My heart stopped as I read the bold headline.
"Lucia Nightshade: WANTED FOR TREASON."
"What?!" I choked out in disbelief as my blood ran cold.
The camera zoomed in on the Alpha King as he sat on his throne with a dark and unforgiving expression on his face.
"If anyone sees this woman," He declared, his voice booming through the screen, "She is to be captured immediately and brought to the palace. She is a traitor, and she will face the consequences of her crimes."
I clutched the sheets, my pulse roaring in my ears. Oh goddess! What the hell was happening?!
I shot up from the bed as panic gripped me tightly. This had to be a mistake, I had done nothing wrong.
I quickly got ready to run but a loud crash echoed through the hidden chamber.
My breath caught as the door was kicked open and royal guards stormed inside with their weapons drawn.
"W-What are you doing?" I stammered as I stumbled back, my pulse roaring in my ears.
The lead guard stepped forward, his face cold and merciless. "You’re coming with us."
"No, please!" I shook my head frantically, "There must be some mistake!"
The guards moved closer and forcefully grabbed me by my arms. I thrashed against them with desperation clawing at my throat.
"Let me go!" I screamed, "I didn’t do anything!"
But the moment that truly shattered me was when I realized how they must have found me.
This room was a secret one. It was a place only I and one person knew about, and that person was none other than Xander.
Oh goddess! Had Xander betrayed me?!
