Chapter2

Mara’s POV I felt bad walking out of the club without giving the bartender as much as a second look. But at least, I dropped the VIP card back onto the counter before leaving. That counted for something, right? Traffic was crawling when I got out onto the streets, straddling my bike parked in one corner. The actions made my already short dress bunch up even higher around my waist. Usually, I would have cared about that. But I had only a few minutes before Sebastian noticed his card was missing, so I needed to be on the move. It didn't help that I might have had a couple too many glasses of wine with him, and now, I am so heady and maybe a tad horny. Fuck red wines. And f**k Sebastian for making me stay in there longer than I had planned to. Now, it made sense why every girl in New York threw themselves at him. He was a bloody playboy, but even "boy" didn't fit into the description. Playman, maybe? Gosh! I was bordering on the edge of drunk. Getting off my bike, I took off my stiletto and left them there on the floor, rushing into the building, with the cold floor pulsing underneath my feet. The silver lettering, Crow Holdings, glowed into the night. I didn’t give it more than a flimsy look as I swiped the card and rushed into the elevator. "Come on," I muttered to myself, watching the numbers trickle past. When it hit 12, the doors sprang open. I had only five more minutes at most before Sebastian noticed. I'd done my research. I knew he was very keen on details. It was easy to find his office since only he occupied the topmost floor. My flash drive was out of my boobs in a second, and I inserted it into the processor, unlocking the computer and hitting a few keys to get it transferring. Three minutes. I think I could afford that. I took the liberty of looking around the office, even though I usually wouldn't. The space was tidy, with nothing out of place. Not even a single pen. There was a golden globe in one corner of the office that caught my attention. I gave the screen of the computer a look. Two minutes. Crossing the space to check the globe out was probably the wrong move, or maybe the entire night was. Because as soon as I reached it, I heard his steel voice again. “What the f**k do you think you are doing in here?” I turned around at once, knocking over the globe in the process. It made a loud clang, shattering into pieces. “I…” I blinked, thinking fast. Sebastian was smart. No lie could pass through him. “I’m sorry about your globe.” “You haven’t answered my question.” He was still standing by the door, but he'd seen the flash drive. His eyes were on it now, and I thought I saw a muscle jerk. “Who sent you?” I walked slowly towards him, careful not to step on the shards of glass since I was still on my bare feet. “Sebastian, this isn’t what it looks like.” “It is exactly what it looks like,” he countered. “And I bloody do not care about the globe. You are stealing from me. No one steals from me, Fiona.” I flinched when he called the fake name I’d given him. And then, it hit him suddenly. “You’re not Fiona, are you?” I swallowed, trying to think of something, but Sebastian moved suddenly. One minute, I was standing close to the table, and the next, I was pressed against it, with Sebastian in the middle of my thighs. “Who are you and who the f**k sent you to steal from me?” He growled, his hand on my shoulders, with his nails digging into the cotton of my dress. “Sebastian….” He leaned in closer. Too close for comfort. Despite the situation, my eyes fell to his lips, and immediately, a groan slipped from mine. Really, Mara? Your whole career and reputation are on the line right now, and the only thing you can think about is the lips of the man who wants to kill you right now. Sebastian's face crawled with so much intensity that it made me quiver underneath him. His fingers digging into my dress had relaxed, but he still held me firmly. My n*****s hardened under my dress, and I cursed myself mentally for not putting on a damn bra. Sebastian saw it too. He stared at them longer than a second, and I thought my heart was going to jump out of my chest. But what was scary was the fact that his expression didn't falter. Not even for a bit. “I’m Mara,” I said hurriedly, drawing his attention back to my face. He quirked a brow. "You asked for my name." “I asked for the name of the person who sent you.” “I’m sorry, but I cannot tell you that.” I patted my head mentally. I didn’t think I could get my tongue working from how it curled inside. I thought Sebastian’s eyes were a bright shade of gray, but I was wrong. Looking at him this close, I could see the rim of black around it. They looked so dark from up close. So dark that I… His eyes narrowed suddenly as realization dawned on him. Slowly, he took his hands off my shoulders, bringing them to the edge of the table, on both sides of my lithe frame. And in that minute, I knew exactly what he was thinking about. It was many months ago. I’d had a little too much to drink, just like tonight. What was the thing about Sebastian and an inebriated me? Any other person would have forgotten about it. But not me. And from the look in his eyes, I guessed not him either. “You are the girl from that night, aren’t you?” He asked, and I thought I felt my heart stop beating for a second.
