Stefan
“We can't find her, Alpha”
The wind howls through the open window, but it’s not the cold that makes my blood boil.
“What do you mean you can't find her?!”
I gazed angrily at the messenger.
“You bunch of muscles could not find a pup that is just ice of age. Get out of my sight and get me that brat!”
I commanded
“And where the hell is Lucas?!”
I thundered in frustration. I haven't seen him since I declared Maya's execution.
“We can't find him too”
My grip tightens around the table edges almost ripping it off.
Maya has escaped
My jaw clenches as I pace the room, the anger within me swelling with each step. She slipped away, but it wasn’t just her.
It was Lucas. Of all people, Lucas.
My beta
Now I could rate with how betrayed Maya must have felt the moment she caught me and her best frind having s*x.
How devastated she was when I rejected her that night.
Knowing now that you escaped from me throufh Lucas is so unnerving.
This is unforgivable
I slammed my fist down onto the wooden table, the shattering sound echoing through the room. Papers scatter across the floor, but I don’t care. Nothing matters except for the betrayal burning in my veins.
“They think they can defy me,” I muttered, the words tasting like venom on my tongue.
The warriors standing at attention by the door shift uneasily. They know better than to speak when I’m like this.
I turned to them, my decision already made.
“Lucas has no where to go except his sister's pack. He and his sister’s pack will pay for this,” I say coldly.
“We leave at dawn. Gather everyone. I want them both brought back to face punishment.”
They all nodded and left without a word, their footsteps fading as I’m left alone with my rage.
Lucas should’ve known better. Maya’s escape isn’t just a simple act of rebellion—it’s a threat to everything I stand for.
There’s more to her than the others realise. She carries something powerful, and if she’s not brought back – things could spiral out of control.
“Alpha Stefan”
“What?!”
I turned furiously at the voice that is disrupting my thoughts.
“I'm sorry my Alpha, I just thought to let you know that I'm here whenever you need an assistance. Since Lucas is no longer here, I –”
“Leave, Gavin”
The look on my face must have scared him to stop his instincts from saying more.
“Forgive me, Alpha Stefan”
He whispered, scrambling away in fear of my annoyance.
Such audacity from a low class.
Gavin may have found his place to be one of my warriors but he's no match to be my beta.
I groaned in frustration at the thought of my beta.
*******
By dawn, few of my warriors and I were ready, moving swiftly through the forest.
The forest stretched endlessly before us, the trees tall and old, their branches forming a canopy so thick that even the early morning light struggled to pierce through.
The ground beneath my feet was damp with dew, muffled the sound of our footsteps as we walked deeper into the forest.
The air was rigid with our subtle movement, my troops were definitely on the edge as I was disappointed about the situation.
Then, I perceived the thick scent of earth, moss, and something else—something faint but familiar.
Their scent.
I stopped, raising my hand to signal the others to halt.
My breath came slow and deliberate as I inhaled deeply, trying to catch it again. There—just on the edge of the breeze.
A trace of Lucas. Of Maya. It was weak, almost fading, but it was enough.
“They were here,”
I muttered, my voice low but sharp. They exchanged glances, waiting for my next command.
I crouched down, brushing my fingers against the soil.
A small imprint, the soft trace of a footprint, was partly concealed by theundergrowth.
My jaw tightened.
“They can’t be far,” I said, standing up.
“Or better still, they would have gotten to their destination”
The anger simmering inside me began to rise again, burning hotter with each passing second.
Lucas had the audacity to help her escape. And now they were out here, somewhere in this forest, thinking they could outrun me.
I could feel the tension in the air, a mix of my own fury and the growing anticipation of the hunt.
I moved ahead of my warriors, my senses heightened. The deeper we moved along the faint trail, the stronger the scent became, but something else started to nag at me.
Then I saw it—a scrap of cloth, caught on a low-hanging branch, fluttering weakly in the breeze. I snatched it up, my fingers clenching around the torn fabric.
Maya’s scent was all over it. A growl rise in my throat, at the thought of Maya.
We pressed on, even as an unsettling feeling crept over me.
The cold in the air was unnatural, seeping into my bones despite the layers of my clothes.
The forest, which had been alive with the rustle of leaves and the calls of distant birds, began to fall eerily silent.
I scanned the horizon, my eyes narrowing. Something wasn’t right. The atmosphere felt charged with something unusual and dark.
That’s when I heard it—faint at first, like a whisper carried on the wind.
I stop, raising a hand to halt the others.
“Something’s not right,” I mutter under my breath, my eyes scanning the dense trees around us.
It’s too quiet.
“What is that?” one of my men muttered, his voice barely above a whisper.
“I don’t know,” I replied, my voice cold and steady.
My instincts screamed at me, warning of danger, but I’ve come too far to stop now.
Then, i caught movement out of the corner of my eye—shadows flickering through the underbrush. I turn to face them, my hand tightening around the hilt of my blade.
“Al– Alpha S– S– Stefan?”
I mentally rolled my eyes at the shaky voice. I've forgotten that Gavin was part of the troop.
“Shhhh”
I cautioned
Suddenly, the shadows begin to take shape, emerging from the darkness like they were born from it. Figures—twisted, indistinct—start to close in around us, moving like smoke but solidifying with every step. Their eyes glow faintly, and the darkness around them seems to swallow the light.
I take a step forward, baring my teeth. “I don’t know who or what you are, but you’ve made a mistake standing in my way.”
No response. The figures just keep coming, circling us, closing the gap.
My warriors tense behind me, their weapons drawn, but even they can feel it—this isn’t something we’re prepared for.
I raise my sword, my voice cutting through the silence. “Warriors, prepare yourselves. We’re not going down without a fight.”
The battle erupts without warning. I charge forward, my blade cutting through the air, but every strike feels like I’m slicing through mist. The enemy moves like shadows, intangible yet devastating. My warriors fall one by one, and for the first time, I feel the bite of doubt gnawing at me.
Who are they? What are they?
As I fight, I can’t help but wonder if this also happened to Lucas and Maya.
Or is this Maya’s doing?
Whatever it is, I won’t stop. Not until I have answers. Not until I’ve brought them both back—alive or dead.
