Chapter Two

MAYA
My eyes burned with tears when Stefan rejected me in front of basically the whole pack on my birthday.
This has turned out to be the worst birthday of my life and it is not yet over. He still wants to make more announcements.
"The other news that I'm about to announce is a good one. I have finally chosen my mate. My mate is no one else but the beautiful Sonia Star. We will get married in a few days."
He announced as I stood frozen, blood draining from my face. The instant switch of emotion in the crowd made me furious as my eyes burned with angry tears. They are not going to get away with this. I will make sure of that, surely.
"No!"
I uttered loudly.
Everyone turned their backs to face me and I was at the end. Beta Lucas tried to keep me down by holding my hands, but I have had it with people treating me like dirt.
"Leave me be!"
I jerked my hands free from his grip, refusing to be kept quiet.
"You snake!"
“It’s because you’re wolfless, Maya. You’ve never been one of us. Did you really think you were fit to stand by Stefan’s side?”
Sonia spoke up as she stepped forward, looking smug and triumphant. She was obviously enjoying every second of my humiliation.
Some of the younger pack members snickered, others whispered harsh comments.
I pointed at her and walked to the front.
"You can act all innocent, but I know the kind of person you are. You did this. You are a very terrible and callous person."
I said, holding the tears as my voice cracked. The humiliation burned deeper than any physical pain. I can't still imagine that my best friend in the world would betray me like she has done.
"Will you let her talk to me like this?"
Sonia turned to Stefan, feigning innocence.
“Sonia’s right, Maya. You’re not worthy of being my mate or this pack’s Luna. I’ve chosen Sonia.. So watch what you say, or else…"
He flatly threatened, without an iota of care in his voice. Did Stefan really love me before?
"Or else what?"
I cut in, with anger.
I turned back to Sonia and said.
"Your spell might have worked on him, but I promise you that you have not seen the end of Maya Silver. I promise you that I will come for you and you will regret ever knowing me. You will not be able to tell the tales of the horrors you will face when I am done with you."
I threatened.
Sonia stepped forward, feeling irritated.
"You this cheap slut! How dare you threaten me?"
She said and gave me a dirty slap as others were intrigued and also excited by the drama happening at their front.
"You slapped me?"
"I will do it again if you open your mouth to utter such rubbish."
She boasted, callously.
I turned bewilderedly at Stefan but his gaze was cold and final. He steps closer to Sonia, placing a protective arm around her, signalling his decision to the entire pack.
“Someone get the rogue out of here before i do the unexpected”
Beta Lucas stepped forward to get me out of the way.
"I'm sorry, Alpha Stefan. I will take care of her."
He said, as he dragged me away.
"Leave me alone!"
I struggled with him, all to no avail. Lucas is stronger than me.
He took me back to my room and shut the door behind him.
The party continued as if I did not exist. I am supposed to be the celebrant of the day, whereas I am being treated like dirt. My most memorable day turned out to be the worst day of my life.
"I can't believe what is happening to me."
I said to Lucas, my voice was mixed with anger and heartbreak.
"Can someone just wake me up from this nightmare called a birthday? Is it because I'm not good enough for him and I don't have a strong political background? Or is my wolf not strong enough for him?
I sobbed.
Lucas moved closer to me and touched me. I flinched when he touched me. I don't know why I felt that way towards him. Is it because I have so much anticipated this day that irrespective of what's happening in my life, I just want to feel the touch of someone?
Lucas has always been nice to me even though he is the right hand wolf of Alpha Stefan. I have never seen him beyond that. But at this moment, in my state, I felt like grabbing him and doing all the nasty things that I planned to do with Stefan. Maybe I should just do it.
I grabbed Lucas and I kissed him. I kissed him hard and long. Then, I began to move my hands around him. As I was trying to unbutton his shirt, I kept thinking about Stefan and how he wronged me.
Yes! This is what they call revenge s*x. I was harbouring hatred in my heart for Stefan and I am going to take it out on him by doing the same thing he did to me.
As I wanted to push him to the bed, he pushed himself away from me.
"No, this is not right, Maya."
Lucas said.
"What? Why are you behaving as if you don't want me? I have seen the way you look at me."
I said, seductively as I crawled towards him.
"You are not in your right state of mind. Besides, Stefan is my Alpha. I can't do this to him."
He said.
I immediately felt irritated.
"Everyone needs to get the f**k out of my house!"
I said.
"You still need to calm down…"
He stopped when he saw the way I looked at him.
"Get out!"
I screamed pushing him out of the door.
I looked around and I did not see Stefan and Sonia anymore. I took the microphone and I screamed.
"Everyone get out!"
They took the cue and began scrambling away, afraid of what I will do next. That's right! They ought to be afraid.
I went from door to door, sending them away. Some even had the guts to be making out in my parents bed. How disgusting!
I walked to and fro and as I passed by the kitchen, I heard some whispers going back and forth. I stopped and sniffed. This is Sonia's pungent and repulsive scent. I don't recognise the other person's scent and I'm so sure that that is not Stefan's scent. I know it like I know Sonia's scent too.
As I was about to burst in the kitchen and give her a lashing of her life, I was stopped by what they were saying. I listened keenly.
"You can't do this to me, now!"
I also could not recognise the mystery voice.
"I promise you that it will soon be over. This is not the end at all. I will find a way to help you and I will find my way back to you, I promise you."
Sonia said in a very low voice.
I wanted to barge into the kitchen and confront them. But I stopped. This will most likely take a long time and I have to get all these wolves out of my house as quickly as possible.
So, I walked outside and checked up and down the rooms upstairs to make sure that everyone was gone.
I began to put things back in their right places. Sonia is the last person that I decided to send out tonight. As much as I hated her, I really want her to give me an explanation as to why she did what she did.
I didn't really mean it when I said that I will make her miserable, but I know that she doesn't even feel remorseful that was why I channelled my anger to her.
Picking up the knife I found in my parents room, I stumbled downstairs into the kitchen with my heart still heavy from the night's event. Sonia was there anyway so I can place the object back and have it hard with Sonia.
The sound of the front door closing echoed through the empty hallway. I did not bother to turn on the lights, the darkness around me matching the hollow feeling inside. Stefan's rejection and humiliation in front of the entire pack continued to cling to me like a choking blanket.
Further into the room, I didn't hear any more voices. Maybe they left while I was upstairs.
I figured.
Her hands shook as she leaned against the kitchen counter, the cold surface biting into her palms. My vision blurred from the more tears as the silence of the house felt overwhelming. Her family was gone for the night and at that moment I felt all alone.
However, I smelled something that was so strong. I smelled Blood!
I moved into the kitchen to place the knife back in the cupboard, but my steps froze with what I saw.
Lying in the middle of the kitchen floor, in the dim moonlight filtering through the window, was Sonia. My eyes widened in horror as I stepped closer.
She was lying in the pool of her own blood in the kitchen, lifeless. In shock, I dropped the knife on my hands and it mixed with the blood.
How else can my day get worse than this? Tears flowed from my eyes, at this sight.
"Sonia!"
I whimpered.
What the hell happened to her? Who could have done this to her? I was so devastated.
"What the hell is going on there?
I turned around to the frightened yet familiar voice by the doorway.
