After she got home, Lisa’s heart still pounded as she lay back on her bed, staring at the ceiling with a dreamy smile playing on her lips. She felt like she was floating on air, the memory of her date with Franclon still fresh and vivid in her mind. The way his eyes had sparkled when he first saw her, how his smile lit up his entire face—those were images that would be forever etched in her memory. She turned over on her side and grabbed her phone, scrolling back through the conversation they’d had after the date. Franclon was unlike anyone she had ever met. His warmth, his kindness, and the depth of their conversation had left her feeling connected to him in a way she hadn’t thought possible. They had shared everything—hopes, dreams, fears. It was as though they had known each other for years, not just a matter of days. Lisa glanced at the clock on her bedside table. It was late, much later than she had intended to stay up, but she couldn’t resist rereading their messages one more time. Franclon had promised to call her tomorrow, and she couldn’t wait to hear his voice again. There was something about him, something she couldn’t quite put her finger on, that made her feel completely at ease. It was as if all the pieces of her life had finally fallen into place. But as she drifted off to sleep, a small part of her couldn’t help but wonder about the mystery that still surrounded Franclon. He had been so open with her, but there were things she still didn’t know, things that didn’t quite add up. She had tried to push those thoughts aside, but now, as her eyes grew heavy and sleep overtook her, they began to creep back in. *** The next morning, Lisa awoke with a sense of anticipation. She was still in Connecticut, staying in the quaint little house her mother had rented for their stay. The house was old, with creaky floorboards and a draft that seeped in through the windows, but Lisa found it charming. There was a certain coziness to it, a warmth that made her feel at home. As she got dressed, she couldn’t help but think of Franclon. The memory of their date on the East Haddam Bridge was still fresh in her mind. They had walked together, hand in hand, talking about everything and nothing all at once. The view from the bridge had been breathtaking, the river below reflecting the golden hues of the setting sun. It had been perfect, almost too perfect. She wondered what he was doing now. Was he thinking about her too? Was he counting down the hours until they could speak again, just as she was? The sound of her mother’s laughter drifted up from the kitchen, breaking into her thoughts. Lisa smiled to herself, glad that her mother was happy. She hadn’t seen her like this in a long time, not since her father had passed away. The move to Connecticut had been a fresh start for both of them, and Lisa was grateful for it and even though it was just for a week and for the warehouse building, it was still worth it . But still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that there was more to her mother’s sudden decision to come here than just wanting to finish a project. And then there was that man—Junior, her mother had called him—who seemed to be around all the time. Lisa didn’t know much about him, but she could tell that her mother was smitten. Maybe that’s why she hadn’t noticed Lisa slipping away last night to meet Franclon. Not that Lisa had minded; she had needed that time alone with him, without her mother’s watchful eyes. As she made her way downstairs, the smell of coffee and pancakes greeted her. Her mother was standing at the stove, flipping pancakes with a smile on her face. Mr Junior was sitting at the kitchen table, sipping his coffee and reading the newspaper. “Good morning, sweetheart,” her mother said, looking up as Lisa entered the kitchen. “Did you sleep well?” Lisa nodded, pouring herself a cup of coffee. “Yeah, I did. How about you?” “Best sleep I’ve had in ages,” her mother replied, her smile widening. “It’s so peaceful here.” Lisa took a seat at the table, glancing at Mr Junior. He was a tall man, with salt-and-pepper hair and a kind face. He had been a frequent visitor to their house over the past week, always bringing flowers or some small gift for her mother. Lisa hadn’t had much of a chance to talk to him, but he seemed nice enough. “What about you, Mr Junior?” Lisa asked, trying to make conversation. “How did you sleep?” Mr Junior looked up from his newspaper, a smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. “Like a log,” he said with a chuckle. “This place has a way of making you forget all your worries.” Lisa nodded, sipping her coffee. She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of worries Mr Junior had. He seemed so calm, so collected. But then again, everyone had their own troubles, didn’t they? As they ate breakfast, Lisa’s thoughts kept drifting back to Franclon. She couldn’t wait to talk to him again, to hear his voice and feel that connection they had shared the night before. But at the same time, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something wasn’t quite right. There was something about him, something she couldn’t put her finger on, that made her feel uneasy. After breakfast, Lisa decided to go for a walk. The weather was perfect—warm and sunny, with a light breeze that carried the scent of flowers on the air. She needed some time to clear her head, to sort through the jumble of thoughts and emotions that had been swirling inside her since last night. She wandered down the quiet streets, letting her feet guide her. The town was small, with charming old houses and tree-lined streets. It was the kind of place where everyone knew everyone, where life moved at a slower pace. Lisa found it peaceful, a stark contrast to the hustle and bustle of the city. As she walked, her phone buzzed in her pocket. She pulled it out, her heart skipping a beat when she saw Franclon’s name on the screen. Franclon: “Good morning, beautiful. How did you sleep?” Lisa couldn’t help but smile as she typed out a reply. **Lisa:** “Good morning! I slept well, thanks. How about you?” His reply came almost immediately. **Franclon:** “I slept great, but I’ve been thinking about you all morning. I can’t wait to see you again.” Lisa’s heart fluttered. She could almost hear the warmth in his voice, the sincerity in his words. But there was that small, nagging feeling again, the one that told her something wasn’t quite right. **Lisa:** “I’ve been thinking about you too. Maybe we can meet up later?” There was a pause before his next message came through. **Franclon:** “I’d love that. How about we meet at the park near the river? It’s a beautiful spot, and we can talk more.” Lisa hesitated for a moment before replying. Something about the park felt significant, as though he had chosen it for a reason. But she pushed the thought aside, focusing instead on how much she wanted to see him again. **Lisa:** “That sounds perfect. What time?” **Franclon:** “How about 3 o’clock? I’ll be waiting for you.” Lisa agreed, her excitement building. She had the whole day to herself, but all she could think about was seeing Franclon again. She had so many questions, so many things she wanted to know about him. But most of all, she just wanted to be near him, to feel that connection they had shared the night before. As the day wore on, Lisa tried to distract herself by exploring the town. She wandered in and out of little shops, picking up a few souvenirs and chatting with the friendly locals. But no matter what she did, her thoughts kept drifting back to Franclon. Finally, it was time to head to the park. Lisa made her way there, her heart pounding with anticipation. The park was just as beautiful as she had imagined, with lush green lawns, towering trees, and a clear view of the river. She spotted Franclon standing near a bench, his back to her, and her heart skipped a beat. He turned as she approached, and the smile that spread across his face when he saw her made her knees weak. He looked just as handsome as he had the night before, with his dark hair tousled by the breeze and his eyes shining with warmth. “Lisa,” he said, his voice soft and full of affection. “You look even more beautiful in the daylight.” Lisa blushed, feeling a rush of warmth spread through her. “You’re just saying that,” she said, though she couldn’t hide the smile that tugged at her lips. “No, I mean it,” he said, taking a step closer to her. “I can’t believe how lucky I am to have found you.” They sat down on the bench together, and for a moment, they just looked at each other, both of them smiling like fools. It was as though the rest of the world had fallen away, and all that mattered was this moment, this connection they shared. They talked for hours, just as they had the night before, but this time there was something different about it. The conversation flowed even more naturally, and Lisa found herself opening up to Franclon in ways she hadn’t with anyone else. She told him about her father, about the pain of losing him and how it had changed her. Franclon listened intently, his eyes never leaving hers, and when she was done, he reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “I’m so sorry you had to go through that”
