Alex all but ran down the hall to get back to Payton. The knot forming in his stomach had grown and felt as heavy as lead. Something was terribly wrong. He’d fallen for the oldest trick in the book.
“Duke’s not answering his phone.” Colin called behind him.
That wasn’t good. “Payton’s in trouble.” Was all he said as he doubled timed it. Why was this hallway so f*****g long? He felt like Payton was still miles away.
“Running in there without a plan or eyes isn’t going to help her. It’s going to get you killed.”
