"How's Mom?" Nate asked his older brother who was based in Makati. "It's been almost two months since she last came home to Talaora. I guess she's enjoying the city life she left behind a long time ago?"
"Hopefully she's doing good. We barely see each other. She's always going out with her friends," Noah replied.
Noah was three years older than him and the general manager of Regal Talents Agency or RTA, which was owned by them cousins.
"Has she spoken to Dad yet?" Nate followed up.
Noah laughed. "When was the last time they even talked? Probably back when the annulment was still ongoing, in court."
Nate was in fifth grade when their parents finally separated. At the time, they were living in a city near the capital, and their mother decided to return to the province after the annulment was finalized. The two brothers went with her, and only Noah returned to the city when he went to college to take up BS in Entrepreneurship. Nate stayed in Talaora and finished a degree in Agriculture there.
"She's still angry at Dad," he said with a sigh. He stepped out onto the balcony of the beach cottage and looked out at the blue sea.
"We can't change that anymore, Nate. She was badly hurt."
"I know. I just wish they would make amends. They're already old, and we're grown-ups now."
"Stop worrying about them, okay? Just focus on yourself, on your business. And drop by RTA sometime, bring Rada with you."
Nate sighed again. "We're not together anymore, bro. It's been around four or five months now."
"What happened? I thought you were going to marry her."
That was what everybody thought when he got together with Rada. He had dated a lot of women before, but Rada was the only serious girlfriend he ever had. They lasted for almost a year.
"She broke up with me after she found out why Mom and Dad separated."
"You didn't tell her right away?"
"We didn’t really talk, you know?" How could they have meaningful conversations when every time they saw each other, they ended up in bed? "Besides, she already knew our parents were separated before we got together. She just didn’t know the reason until much later."
"She thought Dad was like you?"
"Maybe."
Their father left their mother for another woman. That was the reason for the separation. Nate was only three years old when Armando started a relationship with Yna and had a son with her. Ara initially refused to file for annulment, but Armando was determined to push through with it.
Even though it hurt, Nate could never bring himself to fully hate their father. He may not have been a good husband, but he never lacked as a father to Nate and Noah. He provided everything they needed while they were living far from him. They even had shares in the family business, a large trucking company.
"Sorry to hear that, bro," Noah said symphathetically.
"Yeah. Well, what can I do, right? You know I hate forcing myself on anyone, so I didn’t chase after her anymore."
"You could’ve at least tried. Maybe she was just shocked and will come to her senses eventually."
"Nah. I'd rather not. I don’t like paranoid women. And I’m okay now, anyway."
"Well, you sound fine. Maybe you didn’t love her that much, that’s why you’re not so affected."
"Yeah, maybe." Maybe if he had truly loved Rada, he would’ve chased after her.
"Are you dating someone new?"
Nate laughed. "Mushrooms."
That was another reason Rada broke up with him. He became too busy managing his mushroom plantation, and his girlfriend started suspecting he had another woman. Their time together decreased, and after Rada found out about her father's infidelity, she lost her trust in Nate. She kept calling and texting, asking where he was and what he was doing. She even wanted to constantly check his phone and laptop. So even though the breakup hurt, Nate also felt a huge sense of relief.
Why did he even think of getting a girlfriend in the first place? His life was great when he was just dating. He got to f**k with different women without solid commitment.
Speaking of fucking... his buddy had been inactive for quite a while. s**t, it might get rusty and stop working!
"I gotta go, bro," Nate said, cutting the call as he spotted someone walking along the beach toward a lounge chair.
The woman was wearing an orange two-piece bikini, and her wavy hair was dancing sensually in the breeze. Even from afar, Nate could clearly see her large breasts and wide hips. She was tall, and damn... curvy as hell. The kind of body that made him feel like he’d need GPS just to explore all her curves.
Hot damn, his hormones were going wild. In his mind, only one word was flashing in bold red letters: s*x. He could already imagine grabbing those full hips while ramming into her, tugging on her wild hair as he took her from behind.
Nate wanted to kick himself for thinking something so dirty so fast. He wasn’t the type to do casual flings. He had only done a one-night stand twice, and all the women he had slept with had been people he dated. But this woman—he hadn’t even gotten close or seen her properly, and she already had such a strong effect on him. She was fire. Or maybe he was just insanely horny? Two months might be the longest he had been celibate since he turned eighteen.
He just hoped the woman was single.
He quickly took off his white T-shirt, leaving on his blue board shorts. With all the confidence he could muster, he walked over to the lounge chair now occupied by the woman who was applying sunblock lotion to her arms.
Nate approached her from behind. He couldn’t help but swallow hard when he saw her smooth back. And he was instantly obsessed with her rounded butt and wide hips. A little more, and his buddy would be rising to attention.
He stopped beside her. "Hi," he greeted confidently.
He almost stumbled when the woman lowered her sunglasses to her nose and looked at him. "Yes?" she replied curtly.
"C-Cassy?!"
