Royal Prince's Fated Love

Chapter Ten

Suzie woke up earlier to prepare for her first day at her new job. She found it hard to believe in the fast way her life was getting transformed. It was a rare miracle that she would find herself moving from a homeless and jobless girl to her current status. Her mind switched to her benefactor as she headed to the showers .

She wondered if Dan was trying to blackmail her into an affair due to her vulnerability . Regardless of his personal differences with Princess Diana , it seemed to be incredibly mind-boggling that he could think of casting away a person of her stature for someone like her . Would it be possible for true love to develop between a pauper and the superfluous rich ? God , what could be his real intentions ? What put him in her way ?

She wished she had friends from whom she could peek into Dan's and Diana's backgrounds and love-life . Though she did not know much about Diana , she disliked her pompous and insolent behaviour from the very first she saw her . She had felt something scary and threatening emanating from her . She could not agree that it was just jealousy that had made her react the way she had done . It was conscipicuous that she suffered from some form of superiority complex that excelled in intimidation . She was sure that her display the previous day was geared towards scaring her to keep away from Dan because she had erroneously assumed that she was dating him . As if that was not problematic enough , Dan was now working hard towards pulling her into the already muddled-up waters .

She had been baffled by his down-to-earth character from that fateful day he had taken her to hospital . Her heart was full of gratitude for saving her from despair and depression . That he was that perfect gentleman that every woman would crave for was not in doubt . Though she had started looking forward to his company , she had not imagined that her feelings for him could metamorphosize into anything more than true friendship untill she met Diana and witnessed her irritating attitude . It was then she had realized that Diana did not deserve Dan . How could a such gentleman be entangled with a vitriolic ,loud-mouthed woman ? But then she remembered that she came from the highest echolone of society .

As she wrapped herself in a towel , she could not help reliving the previous night's dinner with relish . Not only had she enjoyed the meal and his company , but it was also her first time to dine in a high class hotel . This excitement was suddenly replaced by a foreboding feeling . She recalled that she was from a different background and admonished herself for fantasizing about impossibilities . She pushed Dan's proposal to the back of her mind . She promised herself to let him know that what he was proposing to her could not work and that he should concentrate on making amends with Princess Diana .

Dan woke up late after sound sleep . It was the first time since his engagement to Princess Diana that he had experienced such uninterrupted sleep .He had come in late after his dinner with Suzie experiencing a high sense of tranquility and peace of mind that had hitherto become alien to him . He had realized that talking and sharing with Suzie was as lulling as it was invigorating . This feeling , as he discovered , was in sharp contrast to what he felt whenever he was in the company of Diana . What was strange was the incessant desire to be in Suzie's company , to hold her close to him and feel her warm breathe . The urgency of this overwhelming desire had been evident the previous night as he left her house after dropping her . He had stood by the door , anticipating not just a hug , but a deep , prodding kiss when she courteously turned and wished him a simple good night . Little did she know that her unadulterated innocence was driving him crazy. But again , that's what attracted him to her .

He found it hard to honour her promise of not seeing each other untill the issue between him and Diana was resolved . Like today , he had requested to meet with her partly because he could not bear staying far from her .

He was heading out to his car when one of the King's aides informed him that his father had called for a meeting in the afternoon that required his presence . He informed the man that he would be back in time to attend the said meeting and got into his car .

Suzie was appraising her office when an expensively dressed , bejewelled lady walked in accompanied by two other ladies and two bodyguards . The lady stood there staring at her for some time before Suzie invited them to sit .

" Come in , and please take your seats ," she invited .

" You must be the new girl who was employed recently ?" The lady asked without bothering to take her seat .

" Not exactly , because today is my first day at work , Mam ," she responded .

" Your Majesty ! Do I look like I'm your mam, young lady ? Where are your manners?"

" I'm really sorry , your Majesty . I absolutely have no idea who you are . Accept my sincere apologies ."

" If you started work today , what else have you been doing other than fooling around ?"

" I'm sorry your Majesty I don't understand what you mean ."

" What I don't understand is how a girl like you would easily find her way here !"

" It is a long story , your Majesty ."

" Who exactly introduced you to this place ?"

" Dan did , is there a problem ?" She wanted to shout because this line of questioning was getting to her nerves . She could not give a damn whether she was the Queen of the Universe .

" Apparently , you are on first name basis with him ! What did you do to him to warrant his attention ? You know , it is not uncommon for some remote villagers to engage in black magic to entice well-to-do young men ."

" With all due respect , your Majesty , this kind of insinuation doesn't augur well with me . Just because I come from the village it doesn't mean that I'm desperate enough to engage in witchcraft to entice men . I dare say that your comments are as demeaning as they are outrageous ."

" Your appearance and tongue are synonymous with shameless seduction . I pity girls of your kind who fantasize about rising above their level by using their bodies rather than through hard work . Doesn't it bother you that you have the temerity to sleep with an engaged man who is many miles above your standard ?"

" Again , your accusations are flabbergasting and outlandish . If you have no other business to do here than belittling me , I have more important work to do ."

" You even have the audacity to ask me out ! Listen very carefully , young girl . Stop fooling around with Dan and wasting his precious time henceforth . Stay away from him because he is engaged to someone of his standard . Am I making myself clear ?"

Instead of feeling intimidated and cowed , Suzie found herself vibrating with rage and rejuvenated energy to vent out her long-held frustrations by the likes of this lady who thought that they were more human than others . She took a deep breathe and controlled her emotions .

" Are you finished ?" She asked instead .

" What an attitude ! I'm warning you if you don't desist from your dirty tricks I will personally ensure that you lose your job here besides finding yourself in a very dramatic situation ."

" I think I have had enough of your mockery and threats . May I suggest that instead of wasting your energy threatening me you use it to reconcile Dan and his so-called fiancee of the same standard ? And with all due respect , may I remind you that regardless of our social status , we all share a common denominator of being human beings . None of us choose where and how to be born , and for your information , nothing is permanent except change . And I do understand that it is easier to blame others than ourselves when things go wrong . I regret to say that I'm not the cause of the conflict between Dan and his fiancee . It is unconscionable to start treating a malady without finding the cause ."

" Pathetic , insolent girl ! What gives you the right to start lecturing me ? Do you. . ." She stopped mid-sentence as she saw Dan walking in .

" What is going on here ?" He asked after sensing the evident tension in the room .
