Semira’s heart pounded in her chest and her breathing became shallow as she propelled herself forward and away from her pursuer. She pushed her bare feet against the soil of the forest floor and pumped her arms in front of her, hoping to gain speed. The man behind her was so fast, and he always seemed one step ahead of her, figuring out exactly where she planned to head in her attempts to outmaneuver him.
