CHAPTER 10
VARELA'S POV
It's been a week since people have thought I was dead. Also a week since I tried looking for my mother, but she was nowhere to be found.
I hacked into the system to look her up but it always comes as denied or rejected, no matter what I do. It frustrates me as I finally have my freedom but I don't have my mother.
The idea of asking Michael for help has come to me, he has all kinds of connections. But I will also be risking my freedom.
I feel something for that man but I don't know what it is exactly, but I know emotions are a weakness. I have to ignore them as I put my mother first.
I stood up as I slammed the laptop shut in frustration as I walk out of the motel room. Yeah that's right, ever since my home was destroyed I've been hiding out in a motel.
If you're wondering why I'm hiding out, it's because Michael has been searching for me, after the fact that they didn't find my body in the fire Michael has used that as hope for me being alive.
I know I should be feeling guilty, and I do, but it's just I don't know what Michael is really like. He could be just like Henry, only wanting me for my abilities.
It's like petting a lion, foolish and dangerous. Something I can't risk.
I pulled my hoodie over my head, hiding my face as I put my hands in my pocket. I know I look sketchy but I can't risk being seen, but I also need some fresh air to calm my thoughts.
I need my mother, but the idea of asking Michael scares me. But he's my only choice right now.
I start kicking a rock on the pathway with my old converses I found in the motel, luckily they were my size.
I start to hum as I put my earphones in listening to Talk by Khalid.
"I never felt like this before, I apologise if I'm moving fast." I mumble as I start to walk to the beat. I guess my strange behaviour was noticeable because a black SUV stops on the road, I look up in alert as I watch the car reverse.
"s**t!" I curse under my breath as I turn on my heel to run.
As I run down the pathway I hear a man chasing me.
"Lily, stop!" I hear the man yell, but I halt not turning around as I rehear those words in my head.
"Lily? That's my mother's name..." I think as my mind is filled with wonder.
"Lily where have you been, I've looked for you for years." The man says as he walks in front of me, but I just keep my head low gripping the hoodie lower over my eyes.
"Lily, what's wrong?" I feel the man pull the hoodie over my head and he's eyes go wide.
"You're not Lily." He mumbles in disbelief.
But I just look at him with curiosity as I swiftly grab my dagger from the back of my jeans as I put it on he's neck as I hold the back of he's hair, giving me more access to he's neck.
"How do you know Lily!?" I grit out in hatred, making sure he knows I'm not someone he wants to test.
"Varela?" But those words only made me put the dagger closer to he's neck dangerously as my eyes turn cold.
"Don't dare repeat that name." I spat out as I release him, not wanting to catch the attention of others.
"Who are you and how do you know Lily?" I then spin the dagger with my fingers amazingly. Making sure he knows I won't ask again.
"She's my wife, and you're my daughter-"
"I am no ones daughter, not even yours." I grit out as I death glare him.
"Now, where do I find Lily?" I spit out as I ignore the whole father and daughter reunite stuff.
"She, well I thought she died, I thought you died. But then you're here and you're-"
"Yes I know, how shocking that I'm not dead. But I don't care." I say coldly as I start to walk off.
I tried to swallow my sobs as the words he said replayed in my mind. But she can't be dead, he thought I was dead and I'm not, meaning she can't be! She can't!
"Varela!" He says from down the street as I'm about 12 feet away, walking away without an interest.
But I halted from he's call for me. I turn and threw the dagger to he's shoulder, landing right on the shoulder blade. He fell to he's knees with a thumb as I walk to him dangerously.
As I stand in front of him I pull he's head back dangerously, making him look up at him in fright as the dagger still sits in he's shoulder.
"I told you not to say that name again." I spat out with hatred, but then bend down to he's height, so our our eyes were same height.
I grab the dagger out, letting blood pour over he's expensive shirt as I put my finger in it, making him scream in pain. I then smiled coldly.
"How brave of you to disobey my warning, old man." I then get up and walk away.
"Why!? I am your father, you respect me!" He yells in anger but I didn't give a s**t as I looked over my shoulder with no care in facial expression.
"That was for Lily, trust me, my revenge on you will be 10 times more cold then this." I then look forward as I pull my hoodie over my head and start to walk off.
MICHAEL'S POV
I'm waiting in my mansion office, waiting for Nicolas Fenny. Varela's father, I know she would contact her parents.
Her body wasn't found, meaning there's a chance she's still alive and if she is then her parents will be the first people she'll see. Although her mother passed, Nicolas didn't. She'll probably reach out to him for help to find her mother.
But surprisingly he's 30 minutes late as I wait coldly in my office impatiently.
"Mr. Anderson, Nicolas is here." I wave my assistant off as Nicolas walks in hesitantly.
"Sorry for my late arrival." He says, but I ignore he's words as I spot a wound patch over he's left shoulder.
I couldn't help but smile, knowing that was my Varela's doing.
"Please, sit." I say coldly as my gaze turns sharp.
"What can I help you with, Mr. Anderson?"
"Your daughter, where is she." I say straightforward but those words only made Nicolas look uncomfortable from the mention of he's daughter.
"She died when she was 4, sir." But I only smirk in amusement as he tried to lie to me through he's teeth.
"Are you willingly to lie to me, to my face old man?" Nicolas started to squirm in he's chair as I see him sweat in nervousness.
He's too easy to read. They all are, I can read them like a book, but not Varela.
"I'm not lying-"
"Then where did you get that wound?" I cut him off while I can't help but smile in amusement.
"I can't tell you, I'm sorry." He says lowly as he tilts he's head down.
"I'm not asking old man, so I'm going to say it again, and only this time you'll tell me. Or I can't promise you a pleasant way out of my mansion."
He sighs as he knows he can't lie anymore, he looks up with sad eyes as he speaks.
"She was near some motel, Jarade Motel. That's the last I saw her." I just smiled from he's words as I waved him off.
"You can leave, I have no use for you now." He just looks at me in shock.
"Don't hurt her, please. She's all I have." But I only smirk coldly.
"Then why did you leave her?"
Nicolas's eyes go wide in shock, probably wondering how I knew this information. But a man like me can know things in a blink of an eye.
I saw my men come into the room and lead him out of the room as I'm left with my thoughts alone.
I decide to call the motel, asking them to transfer my call to her room phone, and they accepted.
After a few rings a soft angelic voice that I've missed dearly comes on the phone.
"Hello?" She asks as she sounds tired.
"I'm coming for you, Varela."
"Michael?" She gasps with shock, I thought she was happy until I hear her next words.
"Dare come near me and I'll kill you, do you understand!"
I put the phone away from my ear as I rub my chin in confusion. Why is Varela so cold towards me?
Bigger question, why do I care?
"We'll see." Is all I say as I hang up the phone, I then alert my men to surround the Jarade motel. Making sure she can't escape, not this time.
