“Who’s he?” Rielle asked.
“A… business rival,” Theodore replied.
“You’re better than him, right?”
“Maybe.”
“You’re the best.”
Theodore smiled and ruffled her hair.
“When did you get back?” he asked.
“Two days ago.”
“Cool.”
They went into Theodore’s office and sat on the couch while Bella served Rielle some juice.
“Thank you,” she said with a smile.
“You’re welcome.”
Bella smiled back before returning to work.
Shortly after, Mark, his assistant, entered.
“Mr. Meret, these are the files you asked me to bring,” he announced.
“Put them on the table,” Theodore replied.
He placed the files on the table and left.
Theodore picked up one of the files. He looked pretty serious as he went through it, while Rielle kept admiring him as she drank her juice.
“He looks so handsome when he’s serious,” she thought out loud.
Luckily, Theodore didn’t hear her.
“Are you talking to me?” he asked.
“Hmm, no.”
She quickly took another sip of her juice to mask her flustered expression.
“He didn’t catch that,” she whispered to herself.
“You look pretty serious. Do you need help?” she asked.
He looked up from the file in his hand.
“You? Help me?”
“Yeah.”
“You’re joking.”
He smiled.
“Of course not. I’m serious. I’m not a kid anymore.”
“You still are.”
“No, I’m not.”
She stood up and walked toward him, but she suddenly tripped. Theodore rushed to her before she could fall.
After catching her, Rielle’s face flushed red as she imagined him pulling her in for a kiss.
“Hey, Theo.”
The door opened, revealing Amanda with a smile on her face. However, her smile dropped immediately when she saw the scene before her.
“What’s going on here?” she demanded.
“Nothing.”
Rielle quickly straightened herself. Amanda’s eyes narrowed, demanding an explanation without saying a word.
Rielle understood the look.
“I tripped, and Theo helped me before I could fall,” she explained quickly.
“Theo? Like he’s your boyfriend?”
“No, I didn’t mean it like that.”
She panicked and immediately looked down.
“Come on, Amanda. Don’t be like that,” Theodore cautioned her.
“Stop it, Theo. I’ve warned her thousands of times not to call you Theo. Only I can call you that.”
“Okay.”
He looked at Rielle.
“Don’t call me Theo, alright? My girlfriend here is getting jealous already.”
He smiled.
Rielle nodded.
Theodore calling Amanda his girlfriend stung more than it should have, but that was the reality. He didn’t feel the same way about her. She was the one with such feelings for him.
“I’ll be leaving now,” Rielle announced.
“Stay a bit longer,” Theodore pressed, and Rielle hesitated.
“Let her go. She doesn’t wish to stay any longer, so why force her?” Amanda interjected.
“Bye, Theodore.”
“Alright, bye.”
He smiled at her—the type of smile he gave her that told her not to worry about anything.
She nodded.
“b***h,” Amanda whispered, loud enough for only Rielle to hear as she walked beside her.
Rielle looked back at Theodore, a little hesitant to leave.
“Leave,” Amanda said, her tone filled with disgust.
Rielle walked out of the door. Just when she thought she’d be able to spend the whole day with Theodore, Amanda had shown up.
“Come on, Amanda. Why are you always mean to her? I don’t like it. It’s not nice. She’s your cousin, for goodness’ sake.”
“Why are you always taking her side? It’s frustrating,” she vented.
“Because you’re so mean to her, and I don’t like it.”
“Okay, I’ll try to be nice.”
“You say that every time.”
“Theo! I’m your girlfriend, remember? Not her.”
“I know,” he said, almost raising his voice.
“Are you mad at me?” she asked when she realized Theodore was getting annoyed.
“I’m not.”
“I know you are. I’m sorry. I promise I’ll be nice to her.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
She walked up to him and kissed him on the lips.

Rielle got outside Myrane Corporation looking pissed. She looked up and sighed.
“She just came out of nowhere and spoiled the whole moment. Such a total buzzkill. I hate her.”
“And I’m not a bitch.”
She left angrily.
~~ D’AVERON EMPIRE ~~
The entire office was silent.
Kyren sat behind his massive desk, his posture relaxed, yet there was something unnervingly intimidating about the man. His sharp eyes remained fixed on the screen before him, scanning through numbers and reports with an expression that gave nothing away.
The only sound in the room was the faint ticking of the clock on the wall.
A knock sounded twice against the door.
Kyren didn’t look up.
“Come in.”
It was Anson, his assistant.
“This is the information you asked me to get.”
“Place it over there,” he replied, his gaze still fixed on the screen.
“How’s the preparation for the proposal going?” he asked.
“Pretty good, sir.”
“You know what to do.”
“Yes, sir.”
He bowed before leaving.
Kyren slumped in his chair, sitting with his legs spread as he ran his fingers through his hair and sighed.
His eyes fell on the file Anson had brought over. He reached for it and opened it.
“Rielle Virelli,” he read aloud, his gaze fixed on her picture.
