Brian's condition improved gradually after days and was finally discharged, though still wounded. It was now Nalwanga's task to ensure he gets his medication and have his meals on time. It was not a walk in the park but she promised to stand with him as he had done so to her before. Her baby, Mwamba, who she named based on the hardship they had gone through but kept going on,was blossoming. She was all beautiful and had worn smiles that lightened her face and gave her hope. Her sounds, though not understood, meant a lot to Nalwanga and Brian loved the bond that was between a mother and daughter. Nalwanga had just done administering drugs to Brian, and he laid his charming eyes closed, taking a nap.She looked at him and was murmuring a short healing prayer for him. His phone rang and Nalwanga looked closely at it,no identity of the caller. Nalwanga's fingers trembled as she held the phone. She had been juggling his medication bills with the support of his parents, household expenses on her own, and her own emotional turmoil for what felt like an eternity. The sound of the phone ringing had been a welcome distraction, but the voice on the other end sent her world crashing down. "Hello?" Nalwanga said, trying to sound calm. "Is Brian there?" a woman's voice asked, husky and confident. Nalwanga's heart sank. "Who is this?" she demanded, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'm...a friend," the woman replied, her tone dripping with sarcasm. "Tell Brian his daughter needs him. If he can't take care of her, I'll bring her to him. Maybe then he'll understand the consequences of his actions." The line went dead, leaving Nalwanga staring at the phone in horror. Brian's eyes fluttered open, and he weakly asked, "Who was that?" Nalwanga's gaze drifted to her partner, her mind reeling with questions. Why hadn't he told her about another child? What kind of man was he, really? She forced a smile, not wanting to add to Brian's burden. "Wrong number," she lied, trying to keep her voice steady. That night, Nalwanga couldn't sleep. The woman's words echoed in her mind, and she felt like she was drowning in uncertainty. As she lay there, a thought crept into her mind – what if she could find someone to help her, someone who could ease her financial struggles? The next morning, Nalwanga did something she never thought she'd do. She downloaded a dating app, her fingers moving with a mix of desperation and curiosity. She created a profile, carefully crafting a persona that would attract someone kind and generous. Days turned into weeks, and Nalwanga's phone remained stubbornly silent. She was about to give up when a message popped up from a user named "Rex." His profile picture showed a handsome, smiling man with piercing eyes. "Hey, beautiful," Rex's message read. "I saw your profile and couldn't help but notice how stunning you are. Would love to get to know you better." Nalwanga's heart skipped a beat. She hesitated for a moment before responding, unsure of what she was getting herself into. As she chatted with Rex, Nalwanga found herself opening up in ways she never thought possible. He was charming, witty, and genuinely interested in her life. When he offered to help her with her financial struggles, Nalwanga felt a weight lift off her shoulders. But as she looked at Brian, sleeping fitfully on their bed, she couldn't shake off the feeling that she was betraying him. Was she ready to let go of the past and embrace the unknown? The questions swirled in her mind as she gazed at Rex's messages, her heart torn between loyalty and temptation. As the days went by, Nalwanga found herself looking forward to Rex's messages more and more. He was kind, attentive, and generous, sending her money for groceries and hospital bills without hesitation. Nalwanga couldn't help but feel a spark of attraction towards him, but her feelings for Brian still lingered. One evening, Rex suggested they meet in person. Nalwanga hesitated, unsure if she was ready to take that step. But Rex's charming words and genuine concern for her well-being put her at ease. They agreed to meet at a cozy coffee shop in town. As Nalwanga walked into the coffee shop, she spotted Rex sitting by the window, sipping a latte. He stood up, flashing a warm smile, and Nalwanga's heart skipped a beat. He was even more handsome than his pictures, with piercing eyes and chiseled features. "Hey, beautiful," Rex said, pulling out a chair for her. "You look stunning." Nalwanga blushed, feeling a mix of emotions. She was drawn to Rex, but her conscience nagged her about Brian. As they chatted, Nalwanga found herself opening up to Rex in ways she never thought possible. He listened attentively, his eyes locked onto hers, and she felt seen and understood. Over the next few weeks, Nalwanga found herself spending more and more time with Rex. He had employed a house manager that would take care of Brian and Nalwanga's daughter, all these Brian unaware of the financial source. But since he knew Nalwanga as a hardworking lady,he did not suspect anything. Rex took her out for dinners, bought her gifts, and showered her with attention. Nalwanga couldn't deny the connection she felt with him, but her feelings for Brian still lingered. One day, Rex took Nalwanga to a luxurious apartment, telling her it was a gift – a place she could stay with Brian while he recovered. Nalwanga was touched by the gesture, but a part of her felt uneasy. Was she using Rex for financial gain, or was she genuinely falling for him? And what about Brian? As she looked at Rex, she knew she had to make a choice. Would she stay with Brian, the man who stood with her and her child despite not being the biological father, or explore this new connection with Rex? The uncertainty hung in the air, leaving Nalwanga torn between her heart and her head. Meanwhile, Brian's condition slowly improved, and he began to ask more questions about Nalwanga's whereabouts and activities. Nalwanga's secrets were piling up, and she knew she couldn't keep them hidden forever.
