CHAPTER TWO

1026 Words
Alessandro looked out the window, where the bullet flew from. He watched, frozen in shock, as his mother lay motionless on the pavement below. The sound of a gunshot still rang in his ears, and his heart raced as he tried to process what had just happened. He didn't know what to do, but he knew he had to act fast. His mind raced as he tried to think of what to do next. Nothing prepares you for this moment. He knew he had to act, but he felt paralyzed with fear. As he stood there, unable to move, he heard another sound. A man's cry echoed, coming from the passageway. His father ran into the room, followed by three men who assisted him in carrying his bleeding wife to the hospital. *. *. * Three hours later, the father and son were still standing in front of the operation room, waiting to hear the condition their mother was in. After what felt like an eternity, the operation room door burst open, and the doctor was the first to come out His words cut through the air like a knife, and Alessandro felt like he couldn't breathe. His mother was seriously injured, and her life was hanging in the balance. He felt like he was in a nightmare, and he just wanted to wake up. But this was real, and it was happening to him. It wasn't fair, so he thought "I'm just twenty-two, I can't lose you now Mother". The doctor continued to speak, and Alessandro tried to focus on his words. "She has suffered a serious spinal cord injury. I'm not sure if she will be able to walk again". After that, he zoned off, before staggering away like a drunk man, but in was not intoxicated by alcohol, rather he was drunk in sorrow and pain. He felt like he needed to do something, anything, to release the tension and anger he was feeling. He got into his car and slammed the door shut. As he started the engine, he gripped the steering wheel tightly, his knuckles turning white. He wanted to hit something, to break something, to release the fury that was building up inside of him, even though he knew that it wouldn't solve anything. *. *. *. Aurora lost track of time, as she left the Silverado's mansion. She didn't meet Britney, and it was such a relief. Who knew how awkward the situation would have been? At first, she visited the beach, before going to a diner to eat her favorite snack which was a chocolate cupcake. As a regular, and lover of chocolate, Mrs Alice the owner set her order before even asking. All through while Aurora ate, her neck was turned, and she faced outside, looking at everyone that walked past the building. She was overwhelmed with different emotions. She felt an equal amount of happiness and sadness, she couldn't place her finger on which emotion she felt more. Even after being done with her cake, she sat still, just sighing every passing minute, and when she couldn't handle it again, she left the diner and started another journey. Aurora decided to trek to her single-room bedroom house which was 3km away from the dinner. The walk was long, but she needed to take her mind off things or think of the right decision to make. She kept touching Alessandro's ring still on her finger. She met a familiar door, which was her house, and Aurora had still not come to a decision. She sat by the staircase in front of the door, the confused lady did not want to be by herself tonight. Sighing out loud again, looking straight ahead when something interesting caught her attention. Alessandro packed his car and stood leaning on it. Their eyes meet, and Aurora immediately breaks hers out of shyness. She adjusted herself on the stairs where she sat, trying to stylishly brush her scattered hair. When she was done, she stood up to meet his eyes. Although she had to bend her neck to make it mission possible, it was still worth it. "What are you doing here Alessandro?" The same question he asked himself, probably it was because she was the last person his mother spoke about before she was shot. "It's freezing out here, why sit outside?" Aurora felt bad that Alessandro replied to her question with an entirely different question, but she quickly brushed the feeling, standing up and ushering him into the house. They sat down, without anyone saying another word for at least a minute before Alessandro broke the silence. "Is living with Brittany so bad that you had to rent this small place?" Although the question came as a shock, with her head still bowed she answered "No, on the contrary, the Silverado's family is good. Brittany's mom helped me when she was struggling. My mother loves working there, as it's also another way that she could show her appreciation for helping when my father left after denying me. But even with how nice they are, I can't misuse that, and I'm not some charity case. I wanted to choose my path, I needed some space away from everything and I couldn't be more happy when my mother rented this house. This is my first home, a building I can call home". Realizing she had been talking for a while, Aurora laughed awkwardly, " I'm sorry if I bored you, I just got carried away. It's nice to have someone visit, my mother is hardly here, and sometimes it feels like she considers the mansion her home. But it's ok, I'm used to the loneliness". Alessandro's eyes moved to her finger and found his ring still on her hand. He jumps up immediately, going to Aurora's front. This action made Aurora stand up also. "Is there anything wrong". The lady asked out of curiosity. Alessandro smiled before crashing his lips on hers and after a while, he forced his tongue in. He breaks the kiss before saying because it was more of a sentence than a question. "We are getting married this Saturday".
