Everything was going to plan, she thought, humming under her breath as she smoothed down her dress, the smile on her face so wide that she feared it might never disappear. She quickly tidied her hair and then turned around, ready to ask Lucian what he might like to do next, the words quickly cut off as she took in the fact he was kneeling on the floor, a small rectangular box held tightly in his hands.
Oh gods, this wasn’t what she thought it was, was it? She gasped and put a hand to her mouth, her eyes widening in surprise. Her body began to tremble. She felt tears prick the corners of her eyes.
