Even though she had spent the better part of the day preparing everything so that it was just right, she still feared he would refuse to celebrate his birthday or would grow angry at her efforts to encourage his participation in a celebration he might not want. She had poured all her love into making his cake, decorating it just so, writing Happy Birthday on it with care, and frosting it with all the love she possessed.
