Chapter 35: Fractured Loyalties

300 Words
Chapter 35: Fractured Loyalties (When love feels like war) Cade stood in the shadows of his penthouse, the city lights casting fractured patterns on his restless face. The message on his phone burned in his mind: “She’s slipping. Control is breaking. Act now.” Control. Like he ever really had any. His fists clenched so tight the knuckles went white. The memory of Aria—her scent, the desperate way she clung to Damon—haunted him. Every stolen moment between them was a wound in his chest, raw and bleeding. He paced the length of the room, the weight of his choices pressing down like a vice. He wasn’t just fighting Damon anymore; he was fighting for Aria’s soul—and maybe his own sanity. He hated how much she needed Damon. How every touch seemed to pull her further from him. But deep down, Cade knew the truth: Aria was caught in a war neither of them fully understood. His phone buzzed again—a new message from the same unknown number. “She’s fragile. Keep her close. We have eyes everywhere.” A cold shiver ran down his spine. “Eyes everywhere.” Like the world was closing in on them—on Aria. He ran a hand through his hair, exhaling a breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. The stakes had never been higher. Every move, every word, could mean losing her forever. Cade’s voice was low, almost a whisper, as if speaking aloud could shatter the fragile control he clung to. “I’m not losing you.” He grabbed his jacket and stormed out, his mind racing with plans and promises. The night was far from over. The battle for Aria’s heart was just beginning. And Cade wasn’t going down without a fight.
