Chapter 47: Velvet Knives

241 Words
Chapter 47: Velvet Knives (I left him on his knees) Aria didn’t stay for dessert. She left the gala before midnight, slipping into the back of a black town car with her heels in one hand and a new number in her clutch—the stranger’s. She wouldn’t call. But knowing she could? That was enough. The city blurred past her window like a fever dream. Lights. Smoke. Ghosts. Her phone buzzed. Damon: You were unforgettable tonight. Cade: We need to talk. I’m coming over. She didn’t respond. She didn’t owe them anything—not after everything they tore apart. Let them stew in their regrets. She had bigger plans. The car slowed. Not her apartment. Damon’s. She hadn’t told the driver to come here. But she didn’t stop him either. Because maybe part of her still wanted the wreckage. The danger. Maybe she just wanted to feel something sharp. She stepped out, heels dangling from her fingers, and walked barefoot into the lion’s den. The elevator opened directly into his penthouse. He was waiting. Shirt undone. Tie loose. Drink in hand. “Changed your mind?” Damon asked, voice low. “No,” she said, walking past him. “I changed the rules.” He followed her like a shadow. “Why are you here?” She turned. Met his eyes. “Because I want to hurt you,” she whispered. “And I want you to like it.”
