Chapter 23: Fractured Truths
(Secrets never stay burried)
Aria’s hands trembled as she stared at the photo—Damon’s easy smile a stark contrast to the cold stranger beside him. The weight of secrets pressed down, suffocating.
“What did he hide from me?” she whispered, voice barely steady.
Behind her, Cade stepped forward, his presence steady but haunted.
“You deserve to know everything.”
Aria looked up, meeting his eyes—filled with regret and determination. “Tell me.”
Cade took a breath, the silence thickening the air before he began.
“It wasn’t always like this,” he said slowly. “Damon’s past… it’s darker than you think. He’s been running from it for years.”
Aria’s heart clenched. “Why didn’t he tell me?”
“Because some truths can destroy you,” Cade said, voice low. “And because he’s scared.”
The room felt like it was closing in, every word a fracture splitting the fragile trust between them.
“But you have to know,” Cade continued. “Damon’s enemies are closer than you think. And they’re coming for you.”
Aria’s breath hitched, the danger suddenly real and immediate.
Her phone buzzed again—another message flashing on the screen.
Trust no one.
She swallowed hard, realizing the fight for her heart was nothing compared to the fight for her life.
Cade reached out, fingers brushing hers—a silent promise.
“We’ll face this. Together.”
Aria nodded, tears stinging her eyes, the weight of fractured truths settling deep.
Because sometimes, love was the only weapon left.
