Chapter 30: Shattered Trust (A lie can cut deeper than silence) The early morning sun filtered through the sheer curtains, casting fragile light over the room—soft but unforgiving, much like the truth they both faced. Aria sat on the edge of the bed, her fingers twisting the hem of her shirt. The memory of Damon’s touch still burned on her skin, but beneath the ache was a gnawing doubt that refused to fade. Across from her, Damon stood rigid, jaw tight, eyes dark and unreadable. The air between them was thick with unspoken words and the weight of broken promises. “You lied to me,” Aria’s voice was barely more than a whisper, cracking under the strain. “How long? How much?” Damon’s hands clenched into fists. “Long enough to realize I was only hurting us.” She swallowed hard. “Why didn’t you tell me? Why keep me in the dark?” He stepped forward slowly, eyes never leaving hers. “Because I was afraid. Afraid of losing you. Afraid that the truth would push you away.” Tears welled up, blurring her vision. “And yet, the lies did the same.” Silence stretched between them, a fragile thread holding their fractured world together. Damon reached out, brushing a loose strand of hair from her face, his touch gentle but desperate. “I’m not proud of it. I’m not perfect. But I want to fix this. I want us.” Aria’s heart thudded painfully. Could she trust those words? Could she risk everything on a man who had already broken her? Her voice was raw but steady. “No more lies. No more secrets. We start fresh—or we don’t start at all.” He nodded, the determination in his eyes fierce. “No more secrets. I swear it.” For a moment, the storm outside quieted, mirroring the fragile peace settling between them. She leaned into him, resting her head against his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. Maybe trust wasn’t unbreakable. But maybe, just maybe, it was worth fighting for.
