Five more minutes away...
Lucas has never mentioned or even spoken another word after dropping the call he made with Jin Sasai a moment ago. He sits in a tense posture, straightly staring out of the window from the backseat of his car and tries to calm himself down. He could hear his heart pounding, his head is filled with so many things he wanted to push away. But he cannot keep himself composed.
Something is gnawing inside of him. His foot keeps tapping the floor beneath him. He cannot keep himself steady. He has to get there as fast as they can. He has to make sure she is fine.
Aoi Chiba should be fine.
The recall of the shocking news that brought him into a state of panic returns again and Lucas angrily bites the inside of his cheek, too strongly that he could already taste blood from it. He does not even wince. He is too occupied with his own worries that before he could even realize where he is, the car already stops moving and is now pulling up right in front of the entrance of a huge hospital.
As soon as the door opens for him, he does not even waste any more seconds to walk out and stride right into the entryway of the building. He quickly meets a small group of his few men waiting for him inside and he casually passes them by, not minding their bows as he is too focused on getting to where Aoi Chiba is.
He has already received the note from his informant inside the hospital that she is now undergoing surgery from the damage she got after the shootout. Upon knowing this, Lucas immediately finds his way into a hall where the operating rooms are located and sees the presence of Mari and Jin Sasai with a few of their men waiting right outside the rooms. Lucas instantly notices the bandages on Jin's shoulder and head, and Mari's disheveled state.
They immediately turn to look behind them right when they hear the noises of Lucas's footsteps and they all stand from their seats to bow at him.
Lucas crosses the distance between him and Jin without any other word and deeply gazes into his eyes. He just stays there, keeping silent for a few more seconds before he finally lets out a loud sigh.
"Take a rest, Jin," Lucas tells him after a moment, his voice gentler than how Jin has expected as he gives his Boss a slightly puzzled look. Lucas just pats him on his uninjured shoulder and flits his eyes to Mari afterward, who is standing just behind Jin.
"You, as well, Mari," Lucas continues, "I've already made arrangements for your rooms in the building. Let my boys take you there and rejuvenate yourselves for the rest of the night."
"But Boss--"
"I'll take care of her," Lucas cuts Jin off before he could even reason out and he gives the big man a serious stare as he tightens his grip on his shoulder. Jin quickly understands the intention and without ever complaining anymore, he only nods at the young Boss.
"As you say, Boss." Jin finally agrees.
"Thank you, Boss," Mari adds from behind. After a few more nods, the three other men with Jin and Mari leaves the scene as they are all escorted by another man of Yanagi who will be the one assisting them to take their rests in their respective rooms. Jin takes that moment as well to slowly approach the bench by the hall near the doors of the operating rooms and sits there with his head hanging low.
He breathes out much loudlier. He takes a moment to close his eyes and just savors the silence.
