Ultimately, when I decided to approach her, she noticed my presence and shifted back into a wolf, causing me to feel apprehensive once more. This time, my fear stemmed not only from her being a wolf, but rather from my inability to share in that transformation.
I again attempted to soothe her. She lunged towards me, seemingly intending to bite, but I articulated, "Please, remain calm. I am a wolf, just as you are."
Utilizing the wolf language, I communicated with her, and she began to grasp that I shared similarities with her. Eventually, she reverted to her human form.
She offered an apology and inquired, "Why are you unable to transform into a wolf?" I replied, "Because I have yet to acquire that ability." Abruptly, she laughed; a girl who had previously been crying was now smiling. She inquired further, and I expressed, "I do not know. I merely hope to gain my abilities as a wolf one day."
I then asked her, "What brought you to tears?" She lowered her head and replied, "I am lost. I cannot find my way home." When I queried about her clan, she identified herself as a member of the Havard clan, which provoked my apprehension.
Observing my discomfort, she approached and asserted, "Not all individuals from my clan are malevolent. There are those who are good."
"By the way, my name is Aurora," she introduced herself. I responded, "My name is Raven, representing the Oscar clan."
We embraced, realizing that despite the animosity between our clans, there was no necessity for our own relationship to mirror that enmity.
I perceived distant voices calling out for Aurora. I inquired, "Who are those individuals? Why are they calling your name?"
Aurora responded, "Those are members of my clan. They are searching for me. We must leave this location swiftly; they can detect our presence."
I ran as quickly as possible, feeling exhausted but determined to reach the border and enter my own territory. I hurried to my residence, confident that my parents would be searching for me.
In due course, Aurora's clan members located her. She rushed to embrace them, but Gamma, a wild and formidable wolf, detected a scent and remarked, "A wolf has departed from this area. Aurora, were you accompanied by any unfamiliar wolf not from our clan?"
Aurora feigned ignorance and stated, "Oh, it was merely a fox that I was pursuing."
Gamma appeared skeptical of her explanation. He scrutinized the ground, tracking the scent. He instructed the others to proceed without him, as he intended to follow the trace, which extended far beyond their border.
He halted before proceeding further to evade complications with the clan. He deduced that the scent originated from the Oscar clan.
With a shake of his head, he returned towards his own territory.
Upon my arrival home, I found my mother in a state of distress, seated before our house and weeping. As I approached her, she noticed me and rushed to embrace me tightly. Subsequently, she began to admonish me, stating, "Where have you been? You caused us considerable concern!"
I informed my mother that I had ventured out for a hunt, which only heightened her anxiety. Her heart raced as she exclaimed, "You are aware that you cannot transform into a wolf to hunt! Did you wish to come to harm?"
My mother growled loudly, alerting my father, who was poised to cross the border but turned back upon hearing her.
She ushered me inside and inquired, "Did you encounter any potential prey?" I replied, "No, Mother."
Eager for further details, she prompted me again, "Why did you take so long?"
I felt trepidation about revealing my acquaintance with Aurora due to the existing conflict between our two clans.
My mother intuitively sensed that I was concealing information from her. Embracing me once more, she asked, "A wolf? Which wolf accompanied you during your hunt?"
I fabricated a response, asserting, "Mother, the only wolf that embraced me is you; no others." My mother noted the presence of an unfamiliar scent, yet I hesitated to disclose that it was solely Aurora.
At that moment, my father returned and asked, "Raven, where have you been?" I reiterated the same narrative I had previously shared with my mother. My father, being very caring and gentle, did not scold me but instead embraced me, stating, "You should refrain from going out; it is safer within these confines."
My father presented a necklace that he had purchased for me. It was a silver piece crafted in the shape of a moon, which he described as a treasure intended for me. Upon examining it, I found it to be exceptionally beautiful, and I subsequently adorned it around my neck.
Wearing the necklace made me feel empowered, akin to a goddess, and I was reluctant to remove it. I expressed my gratitude by giving my father a heartfelt hug and a brief kiss on his cheek, after which I inquired if I could go outside to play with my wolves. He granted me permission.
Once outside, I engaged in play while wearing the necklace, which garnered admiration from my wolves. I shared with them that my father had given me this exquisite gift, resulting in a degree of jealousy among them. They then approached their parents, requesting necklaces of their own.
Conversely, my mother expressed a different concern. She conveyed to my father her suspicion that I had encountered another wolf while hunting. She remarked that during our embrace, she had detected an unfamiliar scent that did not belong to our clan.
Her apprehension stemmed from a desire to ensure my safety, as she emphasized the dangers present in the external world.
Once my playtime concluded, I returned indoors to dine and sat beside my father, who was my favored companion. I relished the meal consisting of pepper soup, meat, and rice. Following dinner, I retired for the night.
Subsequently, my father departed to visit my grandparents in a neighboring village. Upon awakening and noticing his absence, I questioned my mother, “Where is Papa?”
“He has traveled to your grandparents’ home,” she informed me. This response prompted me to weep, as he had not notified me of his departure in advance.
