I blushed, not used to this kind of attention - Nate had always treated me like an annoying friend, never like a goddess.
“I wish I could break these bars and take you right now” he said in his deep husky voice, his eyes turning black with desire.
I blushed so hard I could feel my skin burning. I broke away from his grasp and covered my face in my hands.
“Don’t cover your face baby girl” he said, pulling my hands from my cheeks, “it would be a crime to cover a face as beautiful as yours”.
“You mean, you think I’m pretty?” I asked sheepishly.
“I mean, I think you are perfect” he spoke gently this time, so gently it didn’t sound like him. I looked up to him and saw his eyes were retreating from their blackness into their natural colour, a deep shade of blue.
“I apologise for my forwardness before, my wolf is pretty strong - especially when it comes to you it seems.” He spoke much softer than before, his voice like a beautiful melody. Still deep and strong, just calmer, more kind.
We sat on the floor together, I leaned carefully against the wall, avoiding the silver bars. He did the same in his cell.
“I am so so sorry my family did this to you, I promise I will get you out as soon as I can” I promised. I wanted to be closer to him, without these stupid bars between us.
“Don’t apologise my Goddess, you can’t be blamed for your family, the same way I can’t be blamed for mine. Anyway, I don’t mind, I’ve spent my fair share of time behind bars, I will find a way out sooner or later.” He responded. I had so many questions for him, but all I could manage was the one sitting on the tip of my tongue.
“Are you really a rogue?” I asked quickly. He stared at me for a moment, a smirk on his face.
“Were you really hoping to have that uptight dude in the suit as your mate?” He asked in retaliation.
I stuttered, “well - I… I asked you first!”
“I’ll answer yours if you answer mine” he grinned, playing with a strand of my red hair through the bars.
I blinked a few times, thinking how best to explain. “Before I was born, my Mother and Father visited a witch in a neighbouring pack. They had sadly lost a baby a few years before, and wanted to see if the witch could predict what would happen to me. The witch had read them a prophecy, that I was destined to grow into a strong Luna and be fated to an equally strong Alpha of a nearby pack. Together we would create the largest pack alliance in history and our pups would be pure blooded Alphas, starting a powerful family line. My mother and father were, of course, overjoyed by this. They knew that a neighbouring pack had recently had a baby alpha born named Nathius. They thought that must be who the prophecy spoke of, so they made contact with his family and they raised us together our whole lives, and groomed us to be perfect mates for each other.” I sighed, I couldn’t help but feel I had disappointed my family AND my whole pack.
“You didn’t answer my question” Trexis said, “we’re you disappointed it wasn’t him? We’re you hoping Nathius would be your mate?”
I looked up at Trexis, and decided to answer honestly. “It would’ve been much easier if Nate had been my mate, and it is taking some time for me to get around the idea that he isn’t my mate. But disappointed? Not really. Although… I don’t really know anything about you yet. So…” I breathed in deep. “Are you really a rogue?”
He breathed deep in response, and looked me deep in the eyes. “Yes.” He admitted, “but, not in the way I think you are picturing”
“I wasn’t picturing -“ I protested before he stopped me.
“Terrifying claws, monstrous jaws, killing every other wolf in sight?” He said grimly.
It’s hard to admit, but that is exactly what I had imagined. My Father used to tell me horrifying tales of rogue wolves and their evil ways. My Mother would be furious at him for telling a young lady such things, but always agreed that rogues were just as my Father said. His descriptions of them used to keep me up at night, every sound I thought was a rogue coming to take me away. I would have such awful nightmares.
Trexis looked at me knowingly, “I don’t blame you, I wouldn’t be surprised if your Father has been filling your head with all types of stories”
“My father? Do you know him?” I asked.
Trexis shook his head, his hair shining in the light as he did - goddess, he was handsome. “Not…personally, the elders of the rogues told me stories”
My brain stopped focusing on Trexis’ hair and more on his last comment. “Elders of the rogues? But rogues are alone, sometimes they work in small groups but rarely. And they certainly don’t have elders.” I said in confusion.
Trexis stared at me, I could tell he was at war with himself on what to say next. “Aleynia… the rogues… we aren’t like we used to be, years ago - my Grandfather made it his mission to unite every rogue wolf out there. He didn’t quite reach his goal before he died, but my father took over, and me after that… Aleynia, I am a leader to over a hundred thousand rogue wolves and other supernaturals. I am the mate that witch saw in your prophecy.”
My head was spinning with this information, I couldn’t fully understand anything Trexis just said. A hundred thousand wolves? That was twice the size of the Bright Moon pack and the Silver Star pack put together. How has this happened? How has nobody heard that this was happening?
“I don’t - I don’t understand” I stuttered, “Youre an Alpha? What? How?” A question sprung into my mind that I could ignore, “Why were you here tonight?” I asked tentatively.
Trexis looked at me, his face crumpled in guilt. “Aleynia… I came here to kill your father.”
