Job Search

583 Words
It’s been two weeks since graduation and I have been trying to keep myself busy. Mom suggested that I get a little job so that I could have some spending money of my own. I got up early today and took a quick shower. I decided to put on some jean capris and a white blouse that I thought looked good for filling out some job applications. I went downstairs to grab some breakfast and ran into Caleb in the kitchen. “Where’s the fire” he asked? “I am on my way to fill out some job applications, if you must know” I said. I grabbed half a bagel and was in the process of eating it when my brother turned and looked at me. “I saw you looking at Tanner a couple of weeks ago, while he was outside. He may be a friend of mine, but he’s a big time player. He wouldn’t be good for you. He bounces between girls like it’s business. Just promise me you won’t try to pursue him” he said. I almost choked on the bagel I was eating. I couldn’t believe my brother was trying warn me against this. “He won’t ever notice me. You have nothing to worry about” I said, not sure who I was trying to convince; him or me. I left the house without a look back and got in my car and headed out. I started at the mall, figuring it was a good spot to try and find a job. I stopped by several boutiques and applied. I was told they would call me soon. It was about lunch time so I headed down to the food court to grab some food, when I spotted Tanner and some blonde girl sitting on his lap. It was hard for me not to be jealous at the model looking blonde. I knew I could never compete with her with my dirty blonde hair and green eyes. I quickly avoided them and went to grab some food. I decided not to eat in the food court but in my car. After I was finished eating, I got out to throw away my trash and decided to head home for the rest of the afternoon. When I got there, Caleb was no longer there and mom was still at work, so I decided to get my bathing suit on and head out for the pool. I gathered up my phone, towel and some music and went outside. I set my stuff down onto the table and walked into the pool. I did a few laps before I got out and laid in the chaise lounge chair. I must have fallen asleep because I woke up to my brother yelling at someone. I got up and walked to where the yelling was coming from. Caleb was yelling at Tanner for something. I had no idea what it was about, and I didn’t feel right snooping around, so left and went back outside. It wasn’t long before I heard the front door slamming and then a door from next door slamming shut. Caleb came storming out. “Everything alright?” I asked? Caleb said nothing, just continued to glare out into the open. “Yea, everything is fine. Tanner is such an asshole.”he said. “Oh?” I asked. Caleb turned to me and told me not to worry about it. So I left it alone.
