Difference between You and Him

TWO

“I was going to tell you that you should not be far from me. It was hard to find you…”

Shade’s POV

As soon as I reach my apartment, I enter the bathroom and without removing my clothes, I turned the shower on and let the water flows through my body. Suddenly, I remembered what happened. I still can’t believe it, I feel like I was in my nightmare, worst nightmare. She’s been dating a guy while she’s still my girlfriend. How Rochelle could do this to me? Was it really her? Was I just hallucinating?

I couldn’t help but to cry the pain. Why does this hurt so much? I don’t like this pain. Everything I imagined with her in my future seems to be impossible to happen now. Have I've done wrong to her? Am I not enough for her?

Before I could punch the wall I’m facing, I heard my phone rang outside. I turned off the shower and took my towel. My phone continues to ring and it was annoying but my anger faded when it was my boss who is calling me.

“Sir?” I utter as I answer the call

“Where are you Mr. Garcia?” he asked with a hoarse voice. His question made me remember that I was still attending an event.

“I-I’m still at home sir-”

“Should I pick you up?” he asked. Without a reason, I looked down to the floor

“You don’t need-” once again, he cut me off

“I’m outside. Don’t keep me waiting Mr. Garcia.”

I stop for a moment. Is it true that my boss is here? I walk towards the window and my eyes wide open. His car is really there; He really is waiting for me. I hurriedly took off the wet clothes I’m still wearing and wore the suit that my boss bought, a little hairdo and left the apartment. I was glad that the elevator door opened as soon as I push the button, I immediately got in and goes out the apartment complex.

I ran to my boss’s car and stopped when he rolled down the car window at the back sit. “You’re sitting next to me Mr. Garcia.” He said

“Um… I think-”

“Get in. We’re going to be late.” Vince utter with his normal bossy voice. I didn’t answer instead I got in the car without even taking a glance with my boss. I actually wanted to ask him why he let me sit next to him again. The driver in front looked at me into the rear-view mirror; I look away and ignore him.

The car begins to move but none of us wants to starts a conversation. It was so boring and awkward; imagine you’re sitting with your boss. I’ve never sat down beside him in the car, I think that’s quite inappropriate for a secretary or a person like me would sit with a billionaire.

“I’m glad I pick the right suit for you. It looks good on you.” I automatically turn my head at him. I don’t know if I would be happy that he complimented me.

“Thank you sir.” I said

Once again, the silent in the car is deafening. I must think of something that I and my boss could talk of-

“Mr. Garcia.”

“Sir?” I turn my head to face him but he was facing straight. I’m glad that he starts a conversation ‘cause to be honest, my ear hurts.

“Since you finally know the reason why I kept cancelling Ms. Sanchez’s appointment, I hope you’ll cancel it if she ever makes an appointment with me.” He said with no expression

“I…” I utter. My boss turn his head at me made me look down. “I will sir.”

“Good.”

The car stopped in front a big gate and parked with the other cars who are owned by some rich people. I open the door and got out the car, I stood there until my boss goes out too. I saw him fix his black and white suit then his silver color hair. He really is handsome, no wonder why girls are dead in love with him. They would literally faint because of him.

“Let’s go Mr. Garcia.” He said before he passes through me. I obey him by following him inside the mansion. Every single person we bumped into greeted him and most of them are girls. Of course

We walk straight at Mr. Park where the man is talking to someone but cuts off when he saw Vince. “Mr. Lopez, I’m glad you came.” He said. My boss smiled at him and took a glance at me. It only means I have to hand the gift he has to Mr. Park.

“Well, I’m not the busy man that you think I am.” My boss replied.

Mr. Park laughed, “I guess you are. You shouldn’t have bought me a gift.” The man said while handing the gift to his secretary. I regret looking at his assistant, she was seductively looking at me, it almost look like she’s eating me in her mind right now. I quickly look away

“People only celebrates their birthday once a year, better give them a gift right?” Vince stated with a smile. I can see through his eyes that it was a fake smile he’s wearing right now

Why? What is wrong with this guy?            

Mr. Park once again laughed. “Thank you Mr. Lopez. Please enjoy my party.”

My boss nod with his fake smile again, we both left Mr. Park with his friend he was talking with earlier. I don’t usually do this but the decoration made me look around the room. The chandelier and some expensive things distract me, which was the reason why I didn’t notice that my boss is looking at me. I stop looking around and pay my attention to my boss

“I apologize for-”

“You don’t need to. I want you to enjoy your night Mr. Garcia. I’ll call you if I need you.” He said and left, I frown in confused. I obey what my boss said. I took a drink from a table and walk around the room.

“Mr. Garcia!” I heard someone calls my name, I looked around and I found secretaries in a corner staring at me. I was about to ignore them when someone calls my name again. “Mr. Garcia, over here.”

I didn’t hesitate to walk towards them since I don’t want to be rude. “Good evening.” I greeted them. They all smiled at me

“Bro, I’m glad you’re here, I thought I’ll be the only male secretary her.” Eric utter with a pout. Just like me, he is also one of the 5.4% male secretaries but the difference is that his boss is a women.

“What do you mean about that Eric, you don’t want to be here with us?” A woman named Lyn said angrily

“No. That’s not what I mean. I just don’t want to be out of place since your all women here.” Eric explains. I smiled at them while bickering. Actually, I’m not really friends with some of the secretaries here but we are talking casually since we wanted to be close with them and to know their situation with their bosses.

“So Shay, How are you doing? Still won’t let go of your job and make me replace you?” Sanya said jokingly. I shook my head and chuckled

“I love my work. I don’t think I’ll be quitting.” I answered

“You’ve been working with Mr. Hot Lopez for almost 2 years and you’re still not bored on keep seeing his face?” It was Lyn who asked me. She and Eric seemed done with their fight

“I don’t-”

“Don’t tell me you’re…” Sanya interrupt me. She doesn’t need to finish her sentence since anyone here understands what she’s talking about.

“No. No, I am not gay okay. That is just a weird question. It does not mean I liked him because I stayed for 2 years being his secretary.” I said then drank the champagne I’ve been holding for while

“Okay. Fine you’re not gay aish.” Sanya utter

I looked around and I did not notice that most of the people I’m sitting with are my co-secretaries. I don’t understand why they are here and not with their boss.

“Shay.”

I turned around and faced an unknown woman. “Yes, what can I help you?” I formally said.

She laughed. “You don’t need to talk to me formally. I’m not your boss here.” Now, it was both of us who laughed

“I’m sorry. I’m just so used to it.” I said

“It’s fine but please next time, don’t talk to me or any person so formal.” I just nod at her. “By the way, I’m Kathy, 25 years old, Mr. Cole’s new secretary.”

That is why I don’t know her. “I’m glad to meet you Kathy, I’m Shade but you can just call me-”

“Shay, yeah I just called you that earlier.” She said. I chuckled

“Yeah, you did.” She shook her head.

“Umm… Can I ask you something?” Kathy utter

“Yeah sure, what is it?”

“Well, um- are you dating someone?” she asked. I stopped for a moment, I heard my heart cracked and it hurts.

“I-”

“Mr. Garcia!” I turn around to a man standing near us. It was Vince and as expected, my co-secretaries eyes are stuck at my boss. But why is his making that kind of face, he looks so scary. Had he been into a fight or something?

“Excuse me.” I told Kathy but she was looking at my boss and didn’t even take a glance at me. I stood up and walk towards him. “Sir?”

“Let’s go home.” He said seriously. To be honest, I’m really scared right now. Why is he staring at me like that?

“But the event is not over yet si-”

“I said, let’s. Go. Home.” he utter each word scarily

“Yes sir.” I only agree at him. He started to take step but I stop him. “Sir, shouldn’t we say goodbye to Mr. Park before we leave.” I regret to say that because he turn around at me and his face look so pissed off. What is wrong with this guy?

“I’ll go, you stay.” He said and left, I didn’t move and stay at my place. I can’t help but to keep asking myself on what is wrong with him?

I watch him smile at Mr. Park and as he turns his head at me, his piss face came back. Is he mad at me or what?

“Let’s go.” He said and passes me. I followed him to the car but I sat at the front sit and the silence once again started.

I don’t dare to talk because I’m afraid to see his angry face. I stare outside through the window and start to think about what happen between me and Rochelle was I correct to break up with her? But I saw and heard everything, the guy said they’re in relationship and it was so stupid of her to be dating a guy while she’s still dating me. I’m mad and sad, I admit it. I love Rochelle so much; I care for her than I care about myself. I hate myself for falling to her this much.

“Mr. Garcia!”

I woke up from a deep thought when I heard my boss. “Sir?”

“I have been calling you but you keep ignoring me.” He said.

I lowered my head, “I’m sorry sir. I didn’t mean to ignore-”

“It’s fine. It seems that you were in a deep thought.” He stated made me look up at him.

“Um… What were you going to tell me sir?” I asked

“Oh I was going to tell you that you should not be far from me when we are at an event. It was hard to find you.” I nod but shouldn’t he just call me using phone when he needed me?

“I will sir.” I said. He nods without looking at me.

A moment later, the car stopped at my place. I was about to open the door when my boss handed me a box, I looked at him. “I forgot to give you a neck tie earlier. The store owner told me that the bagger forgot to put it in the bag.”

I take the box at my boss hand, I don’t want to say this but his hands were warm, not like mines, it was also soft and smooth, is that even a hand of a man? It was so good to touch. “T-thank you sir.” I said. He just nodded. I finally got out the car and waited until it goes away.

 The next morning, I woke up with a dark circles. I might look like a panda but I don’t care. The reason I have this dark circle is that I didn’t get enough sleep last night thinking about Rochelle. I won’t deny that I miss her and I still love her. I couldn’t help but to remember the situation yesterday.

“Ugh!!” I groan in anger. I stood up at my bed and head in the bathroom. I did my same boring routine but it was added with sadness. Everything turns gloomy; my life is a mess.

As soon as I reach my office, I sat down and put my head at the table, I close my eyes but it was a wrong move since the moment yesterday suddenly flashes back.

‘“Well, my name is Simone and I’m dating this woman.” He put his arms around her waist move her close to him.’

“Simone!! That bastar-” I shout but cuts off when I saw my boss looking at me. “Mr. Lopez.”

“Mr. Garcia, why are you shouting? Are you mad at me?” he asked while frown. I quickly shook my head

“No sir. I was just- I remember the TV show that I watched last night.”  I fake laugh. My boss nodded then continues to walk towards his office.

“This is a working office Mr. Garcia, not your apartment.” He utter coldly. I lowered my head

“I’m sorry sir.” I said but he already stepped in his office. When the door closed, I face palm my face for doing the stupidest thing I have done. “You’re so dumb Shay, so dumb.” I utter to myself.

The time passes to fast, it was lunch time but I didn’t leave my office since my boss hasn’t got out his own office yet. While waiting, I focused myself at my phone. I decided to open my gallery but it was all of me and Rochelle’s pictures. I felt hurt again and I hated it. Her smile and her beautiful hazel eyes are making fall for her again but I know I shouldn’t, those smiles are now owned by someone else.

I immediately turn off my phone when heard the door of my boss are opened. “I’ll be there, call you back.” He said at the phone he has in his left ear. He put his phone in his pocket and continues to walk towards the elevator, he didn’t take a glance at me but it’s not an issue, he seems to be in a hurry.  

 I finally stood up and head at the company’s cafeteria. It didn’t took me long to get the food since there were less people who eats here. I sat at the table near the window. The moment was good and nice not until group of girls sat down at my table; it was Donna, Kacey and Tiara.

“Hi Mr. Secretary Garcia.” The three of them greeted, in sync

“Hi guys.” I said with a humble smile, well kind of

“Where is your prin- I mean Mr. Lopez?” Donna asked

“He seems to be having lunch outside.” I answered. I frowned when I saw them giggled and scream. I looked around to see people watching at us. Because I’m embarrassed, I lowered my head.

“Oh my goodness, are you jealous or what?” It was Taira who just asked me. My eyebrow knotted

“Jealous? Of what?”

They all took a glance at each other and nod at the same time. Are they triplets or what?

“We’re going to be honest with you Shay.” Donna sighed, “The three of us are shipping you to Mr. Lopez.” She continued.

“What? Shipping? What does that even mean?” I confusedly asked

“Shipping means something else to us Boys Love fans. We think of you and our boss as a couple.” Kacey explained that made me almost choke my orange juice

“What?!” I exclaimed after I coughed. “Are you guys insane? You think of me and Mr. Lopez as a couple?” they nod in sync

“It doesn’t matter if the two of you are really dating but for us-”

“No, do not please. Stop doing that. I’m not gay.” I quickly stated

“But it’s just for fun.” Donna said

I shook my head many times. “No, it’s not fun. It is not!”

“Well, that’s our choice Shay. You can’t stop us shipping you two.” Taira said with a smirk. I didn’t respond to what she said instead I stood up and went back to my office.

“What is wrong with them? They’re being ridiculous.” I utter while sitting down at my chair. I was about to turn on the computer when my phone buzz. I saw the name and it made my heart skip a beat

What the heck. I never thought she would call. It feels like my hands have its own brain to control me to slide my phone to answer the call.

“Hello?” she said. I hate myself for missing her voice, her sweet voice. “Shay? This is Rochelle, can we talk?”

I stay silent. I don’t want to say something, my voice might c***k up. I shouldn’t have answer the call but her sweet voice made my regrets fade away.

“It’s fine if you don’t want to. I’ll just call you later.” Her voice was obviously sad and it makes me wanna cry. “Bye.”

The loud beeping sound was spread in the office, it means the call has ended. My heart starts to ache, I feel like crying but I controlled myself not to since my boss has come back. He walked towards his office, however he stopped when he saw me

“Are you alright Mr. Garcia?” he asked.

“Sir?” I asked to make sure that I heard him right. He looked at me while raising both of his eyebrows. “I am sir. I’m fine.”

“Then why do you have tears in your eyes?” he asked, now only one of his eyebrows are raised.

I immediately touched my eyes and it was wet, I quickly dry it off. “Oh-um there was something in my eyes.” I lied made my boss nod but he doesn’t look convinced

“Do you have plans tonight?” I shook my head. “Good. Have dinner with me.” He said made my eyes wide open.

“Sir?”
