Augustus Maxwell's POV
I've never seen someone laugh so hard with those sad eyes. I can't help but to be amazed by the way she's acting so brave.
I feel so stupid considering I didn't realize that she's the person whom I've been looking for.
To think that the person who has been on my watch and the person I needed to marry are the same is such a blow on my face.
If Sarah Alfonzo didn't call me to confirm it, I wouldn't even know.
But one thing I just wanted to know is the reason behind why she's living another life.
She has a very bright future as the daughter of those devils, having money to secure her future, yet I've seen her working around the city for small jobs, and making errands for people around her.
She's been getting my attention since I first met her, but to become the daughter of the people I despise the most is a shame and a waste. I have plans, and this woman is the key to all of that.
I still remember it clearly how they killed my family in front of me when I was in high school.
They are real devils who are hiding with their angel-like images in public, and I swore to hell that I'll be their downfall. I'll make sure that they will fall so hard and would never be able to get up again.
I really want to kill her now, right at this instant just to see her family falling because of her death. But I can't even pull the trigger. There's something in her eyes that calls for attention, and I can't stop wondering about it as I stare directly through them.
Her eyes have always captured my attention. They're fearless. Now, considering that she's part of that family, I got an idea why.
"Can you do me a favor?" I've never seen someone this brave. She's in the brink of death, but never for once I've seen fear in her eyes, and yet, she's asking me a favor.
I didn't say anything.
"A favor won't hurt your ego so much. So hear me out before you fire that thing up."
My jaw clenched tighter. She's been pushing my buttons so hard, as if she really want to die in my hands today.
"Tell me."
"You see. There are people who's life depends on me and the money I give them. When you decided to pull that trigger, make sure to provide for their basic monthly needs."
I didn't see that coming, but I somehow knew that she's supporting people on the streets based on the reports I got from my people. And that's another thing that amuses me everytime.
All the Laureal's that I know are pure evil. They will do everything to get what they want, even that means killing people. Yet this one is so different. I thought she'd asked me for something personal.
"There are quite a few of them. If you know JK Orphanage, visit them once a month and give them their supplies. I have my last will for them, but that would only last for a year worth of their supplies. After that, make sure to provide for them. And the people on the streets, give them food, not money. I'm also giving them a week's worth toiletries and I reserved a shower room for them. Make sure to also pay for that."
This woman is quite something. If I kill her now, which I don't know if I could even possibly do, I would have another liability because of the things she wanted me to do for her.
"Is this your way of telling me not to kill you?"
No wonder she's so busy with her different jobs. I didn't know that she's supporting many people besides those on the streets.
JK orphanage was once became my home after her family killed my family. But I never came back after living there for months. As far as I remember, there are many people there, so I don't understand what the word few means for her.
"No. It's me telling you to go and not hesitate to kill me. It's your chance. I think your holding some grudges against me and my family. But just to tell you really, my death won't change anything. No evil can change overnight."
And she's aware that her family is real evil.
I've been looking at her eyes, but there's really something in there that I can't explain. Sadness? Loneliness? I don't know, but I want to know.
"Why are you not living with your family?"
"I prefer living outside hell."
I must say that she has the guts to look me in the eye which only few people can pull perfectly, and she does that whenever we see each other.
I pulled the gun down but my gaze remained on her.
Does how much she hates her family to speak about them so badly?
"Aren't you suppose to kill me?"
"I remember. Death is not the only way to get what I want."
"What do you want from me, really?"
She crossed her arms over her chest again, and I found that quite amusing, even earlier when she sat on the sofa, and she remained on her position there until now. I thought she was sleeping earlier when Zander came in.
Her question stayed on repeat in my head.
What do I want exactly from you, really? First, before knowing you as a Laureal, I always had my eyes on you to the extent that I always go out of the house just to take a glimpse of your life in the city, but now, knowing you are her, what exactly do I need you for?
Feelings aside, I still need to ruin your family's life for ruining mine. If I can't use you to pull them down, then I'd do the opposite. I'll make sure you suffer in my hands, just like I did from your family. You're still a Laureal after all. And nothing can stop me from taking my revenge on you and your family.
"Watch me bring down your family to their graves."
"You do really think that I care, don't you? They disowned me early this day, just telling you."
Fuck. Every word that leaves her mouth is taking me to a full stop.
They disowned her? What family does that?
No. Keep a hold of yourself. Do not be swayed with her words.
They're still her family no matter what. She would still crumble when she sees them going down.
"I'd love it more if they fall."
If she's just acting up, I can say that she's really good at it. She's managing so well to look strong and brave after all the threats I've given her.
"Then watch me do that. You'll stay here in my house. After all, we're still going to get married."
"And you're still considering that. I'm surprised." She suddenly closed her eyes and leaned back on the sofa just like what she did earlier.
"Do what ever you want." She added with finality.
I sighed. I always had a hard time dealing with this woman but I'm interested on dealing with her more. I'm looking forward to what this woman would feel if she see her very own family dying in front of her.
I came back to my desk and got my phone on the table. I dialled my lawyer's number fast.
"Prepare a marriage certificate now. See me at my office."
I ended the call and glanced at her again. I'll make sure to make your stay interesting.
I'll make sure that you'll hate staying here more than staying at the place you call hell, woman. This will be more than hell for you.
