Zamara's POV
I didn't know that getting married only requires a signature.
A lawyer he called Morris came with a paper that he made us both sign after discussing things I didn't understand and never tried to understand.
I would love it more if he just pulled the trigger of his gun on me earlier than being tied to something I am not sure about. Maybe I should've just not told him to do what ever he wanted.
For some reasons, I got a little scared of what he might do to my family. He's Augustus Maxwell. He can kill with just a word without lifting a finger. He could really kill them instantly.
But knowing my father, no one can bring him down easily. He wouldn't let anyone bring him down. I know him, and I know their darkest secrets of hiring someone to kill people. I heard them talking about that, and that's another reason why I really want to leave the house, which I eventually did.
I've been living away from them for three years now. And for three years, I stopped using the money I've been receiving from them.
All the money that they've given me are all just in the bank, and frankly saying, I don't want to feed myself using the money they got from dirt.
And I manage to live a decent life for those three years without their support. And I'll continue to do so even if this man insisted to continue this arranged marriage.
He called for female people in uniform, and he's currently talking with them while I am still with my closed eyes. I really want to sleep this instant, but I don't know if I'll be able to see the sun tomorrow if I sleep here in this room. He can easily pull the trigger against me, I just wonder why he didn't.
"Bring her to her room. And make sure that she won't leave that place until I say so."
To simply interpret that, I'll become a real prisoner in this place.
You don't even know how much I wanted to rest. And if becoming a prisoner would grant me that, then I'd accept that with wide open arms.
I just wish Sarah would feed the people everyday while I'm away.
I opened my eyes when I felt their presence in front of me.
"Mrs. Maxwell -"
Chills crawled to my spine instantly with that. That's even scarier than death, honestly.
"Call me Zamara."
"We'll lead you to your room on the fifth floor, Mrs. Maxwell."
I frowned when she still used that name on me. But I realized immediately why she didn't even try to do what I told her. First, I am not their boss, and second, I am no one.
I glanced up to Augustus Maxwell behind his office desk, who's, for all I know, is enjoying this more than anyone behind those cold gazes.
Grinning, I stood up and fixed my clothes that got wrinkled for the long time I've been sitting here.
"Go on. I'll follow you." I said as I directed my gaze onto them.
"Don't think of escaping. You'll just exhaust yourself. There are cameras and people everywhere."
"Noted." If I wanted to leave, I should've done that earlier when he permitted me to leave.
I somehow feel solace in this place, and I absolutely need that now so I didn't leave.
Now, I'm slightly regretting that decision of staying. If he didn't know that I am Zamara, he probably would've let me leave peacefully, but because he's a Maxwell, I doubt that about him.
"If you need help with anything, let me know. I can be handy at times." But not too handy to dig my family a grave to rest forever.
I followed those people as they lead the way to the room I'll be using. This house is really huge, as in HUGE huge. I wonder how many people lives here, and how many helpers he has.
There are people cleaning in every corner of the house, but still, it doesn't look crowded.
They led me to a very spacious room, much more than the bedroom I have in my family's house, but with all the appliances and things inside, it doesn't look that big, but still.
"If you need anything, you can use the intercom with Eula. Tell her what you need and we'll send someone to help you."
"Who's Eula?"
"Eula is a virtual assistant made exclusively for Mr. Maxwell's residence."
Made exclusively for him?
"Like an AI? Alexa?"
"Yes."
I didn't know that it's possible to have his own AI. Just how much money did he spend for all of these? Laureal's mansion is still using Alexa, and that already cost a fortune. How much more with his very own Eula? Rich people really know how to spend their hard earned money.
They left me alone after telling me everything I must know, and everything is Eula.
They said that my new set of clothes are on the way, even personal things such as toiletries and many more, and I just need to wait - which I think would be my job for the rest of my life while I am here.
Instead of going around the room to look for the new technologies inside this room, I let the pull of the queen-sized bed lure me on to it.
Now that Augustus Maxwell is not anywhere around me, holding a gun, I can now peacefully sleep.
-------
I woke up with the alarm I forgot to remove from my phone. It's eight in the evening, and usually, this is a start of another job for me.
But today, I don't need to go and leave the house.
I pulled myself up and stretched my hands over my head, closed eyes.
"Finally, you're awake."
I slowly turned my head to the person who suddenly spoke as I opened my eyes wide.
Augustus Maxwell is sitting on the couch from the living area of the room which is facing the bed where I am.
He's holding an Ipad and seems like he's busy with something.
"Does everyone has access with this room?"
Just getting curious, because if yes, I must not let my guards down, I'm inside the dragon's den after all, and Augustus Maxwell must be more than that. He even claimed that he's more than hell, but I doubt that because my family are the lord of demons, I can assure him that.
If they even knew what I'm thinking about them, they'd probably not just disowned me, but they will kill me at worst. That's what they always do to people who's going against their way.
"Why, are you now scared that people might kill you in your sleep?"
He's so eager to see me being scared of something. I remember that person who led me to his office earlier, talking about fear. Must I really feel that?
"Yes. I prefer dying wide awake."
He lifted his head and finally looked at me. But He just stared at me for a few minutes before he heave a sigh.
"Get dressed. We'll celebrate our wedding day with a dinner."
Chills run down through my spine again, geez. That doesn't sound good. Me being tied with him in any way is not what I dreamed of, and never for once I pictured my life with him. It's just my family who wanted me to marry this man, and not me.
"A dinner." I nodded just to ride on with what he wanted. "I suppose I already have clothes to wear here."
"Everything you need is already here. I'll wait for you outside."
I watched him leave until he closed the door.
Damn it. I'm starting to hate this life.
