THE OPPORTUNITY

“OKAY.” My parents had sad looks on as my dad held my mum’s hands tightly. What could it be? I wondered. My dad clears his throat “I am sorry about the way I reacted about the Brown hill, but what we really need to discuss is Daniel’s tuition fee because the money we have so far is not enough.” I buried my face in my plate; this burden is just too much to bear. Daniel tapped me. “I don’t want to go to university!” Daniel said with a firm tone. I looked up trying to force a smile. “Why?” “I am tired of seeing everybody toil day and night because of me” he said with tears rolling his eyes. I walked up to him and hugged him tightly. “I gat you, boy, you are going to the university” I took out a bundle of cash from my wallet and handed it over to my mom. “Please, add this to the money for his tuition fee”. My dad jaw dropped. “Where did you get such money from?” he asked “From my hustling, dad”, I said with a smile. Everyone laughed about it, deep inside of me, all I wanted was my family to be every time. My phone rang……. It is a call from the caregiver agency I work with as a part time worker. “Hello” “Hello, Jennifer, you have been assigned to the Brown hill villa as a caregiver to Mrs Jane Brown hill, please report to duty tomorrow by 8am.” My eyes almost bulged out. How am I going to break this news to my parents? For me, this is good news because the pay is enough to cater for my brother’s tuition fee, but this is definitely a bad news for my parents. An hour later, I went to my mom’s room to have a daughter and mother conversation. She lay on the bed knitting a winter cap. Her room has a portrait of the family hanging on the wall, a dressing table and a mini closet. “Mom, I would like to speak with you.” She moved closer to me and wrapped her arms around my shoulders. She cuddled me like a baby. “Before you speak, thank you for all you do” ,she kissed my forehead. “Mom, I got a part time job….” I said stammering. “Okay, but hope it won’t affect your job at the flower store” she asked worried. “I already spoke with manager at the store that I can only work for four hours, the pay is not enough to settle bills, mom.” I said. “So, this new job, where it at is and how good is the pay?” “Mom, the pay is so good that we don’t have to worry about Daniel’s going to the university.", she heaved. I added “It is at the Brown hill’s villa.” “What!!!! She gasped”. Her eyes turned red. She moved away from me and frown her eyes. “You can’t work there !” she said with a stern look. “Have you worked with them before?” I asked with my eyebrows raised. “It doesn’t matter but I don’t want you to work with them, another job will come”, she replied bluntly. The atmosphere became tense, and I didn’t want any further argument. “Mom, I don’t know what business you have with Brown hill, but remember we have bills to settle, Daniel needs to go to the university.” I stood up from the bed and head to my room. I cried my eyes out because the burden is too much for me to bear. The next day, I stepped out of the house before anyone in the house could sight me. I went straight to Hanny’s flower shop to work for four hours before retiring to my new place of work. During my stay at Anny’s flower shop, I was anxious and nervous about my new job. What mom said about the Brown hill even made it worse. I ended my shift and head out to the Brown hill Villa. The Brown hill Villa is huge. It has a majestic entrance and a breath-taking view. I stood at the large door twisting my hands. A lady dressed in blue apron opened the door and ushered me to the room. I sat my butt calmly on the luxury chair. I could hear footsteps approaching; I shook my legs trying to catch my breath. I wasn’t taken by surprise when I saw Edward Brown hill walking towards me with a stern look. “Here, she is the new caregiver for your mom", the lady said pointing at me. He looked at me with a faint smile. “Okay, leave us”, he said with his baritone voice. “Are you stalking me now?” He scoffed. “No, why should I?” I chuckled looking straight into his eyes. “Are you jack of all trades now?” ,he asked. “Why is he bombarding me with lots of questions?” My spirit was lifted. Confidence from nowhere engulfed me. I flanged my long hair to the back. “Why do you think I should give you this job?” “I have all what it takes to be a good caregiver….” I uttered. “Such as…. good hands to caress my muscular body, sweet mouth to give a blow job” ,he cut in smirking his lips. “If I could remember vividly, the job description states that a care giver to Mrs Jane Edward not you” I said with a stern look. I rolled my eyes. “I would give you the job only if you will be my caregiver” ,he said staring at me. Tears filled my eyes; I tried to hold back the tears. Why is he treating me this way? Do I look like a w***e to him? “Oh lord, deliver from this temptation” I muttered cursing him under my breath. “I would take care of your needs, just let me have you.” His face brightened as he said those words. “Is this the way you treat people especially the gender female.” I said with tears rolling down my cheeks. He laughed hysterically while I said those words. Suddenly I felt weak and speechless; my mouth became dry as I tried to swallow my spit. My heads began to spin; I held my head as I stood up to have a balance. He moved closer to me before I could say a word, I went blank and everywhere became dark.
