Chapter 1

Many years ago there was a man, in the deep deserts of snow. A scientist sponsored by the British to investigate something that was spotted hidden in the cold. He started out his work but found nothing, until……. There had been a storm raging for four weeks in the land. The cold rose as he sat by the fire in his igloo. “What could be lurking in the wind?” he asked, then his fire went off and the howl of the wind he heard clearly. He tried to light another fire but it did not light up, tried again and again but no success. His vision blurred as he staggered out of the igloo to the storm. His eyes widened as he looked into the storm dumbfounded; his mouth too heavy to utter a single word. He ran to the igloo to get his camera to capture what he saw, the cold kept rising in his skull. Debris of snow collided with his face and coat, it was the strongest storm he had ever seen. He steadied his camera to video. It was rolling as he rubbed his hands in glee. He knew he could make a fortune once he showed this to the government. A loud bang interrupted his thoughts; the source was large boulder rolling noisily toward him. He picked his camera and made a run for it. He periodically looked back to take a picture. The boulder was not rolling aimlessly, it was aimed at him. He ran as quickly as he could but the chase was still very much on. He slid into a cave for safety. He was shivering from the cold and fear; his heart was racing he could feel it. It was already five minutes since he slid into the cave and all was quiet. He breathed a sigh of relief as he laid down on his back to rest. He lit a fire by his side and placed his bag as a pillow to think. The cave was at least warm enough to reason; the camera was still intact. At this point he wanted one thing; to go home. He imagined a well roasted chicken on thanksgiving served on a table with a bottle of whiskey to gulp down. He imagined how his wife would be worried by now about him. He had not told her he was embarking on such a journey; such a dangerous one. He knew she would not have agreed to him coming here. Not to talk of carrying her son along. “Oh no! Jason” He thought as his eyes widened in utter disbelief. How could he have been so careless to leave a seven year old boy in an igloo that should have been crushed by now? He attributed to the fact Jason was not his son. After all, Jason was the one who wanted to come along. He never asked for company on any of his expeditions. Jason overheard his conversation with Mr. Winston back in London and practically begged to come along. How was he going to tell his wife that her only child was crushed by a boulder in the abandoned continent? She would totally flip and the unimaginable would happen; she would kick him out of her house. He had to find Jason fast. He got up on his feet and turned to the opening of the cave to check on the igloo. It was of course crushed to a million pieces but there was no blood in the snow. Jason was either alive or crushed to powder. “How long are you going to keep staring into space?” a voice asked calmly from behind him. He turned slowly as he tightened his fist in case it was a monster or something of that sort. At this point, he believed anything was possible. “Jason. Oh Jason, how did you? How? When?” He asked as he held Jason in disbelief. Jason was about to speak when a loud crashing sound rocked the cave. He was on the ground already bleeding when the fire went off. “Jason. Where is Jason?” he thought as he struggled to get up on his feet. The fire came back on. “Harold. I’m scared” Jason said while standing behind him. He jerked as he turned to hold Jason; but the fire went off again. “Don’t worry it’s going to be alright” He said as he moved his hand in search of Jason. The fire came back on but Jason was standing on the boulder that crashed into the cave. “What in b****y hell was he doing up there? Rita had said Jason was special but not weird” He thought as he walked slowly to the boulder. “Jason. Hold on I’m coming to get you” Harold said as he stood to think. How was he going to get Jason down? His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of incoming boulder just 3 feet away rolling at approximately 20 meters per second. “Oh shi…” Harold said as the boulder crushed him to pieces. The fire went off. 14 years later………. The wind howled wildly here in Pedersia. It was the coldest place on earth; Iceland was hot compared to it. But of course, no one knew that. Why? It was hidden from the rest of the world. The existence of this icy fortress was unknown and their patriarchs hope it remains that way. Centuries ago, a Viking family was banished from Denmark into the then vast land. They were the Pedersons; a family framed by their detractors. They were graciously given a small ship to sail to their death. They eventually found shore in a land they did not know. But the price was high; the family lost the adults in it. At just 13 years of age, Boaz Pederson led his sisters through a turbulent land. A land filled with black magic; no wonder it was deserted. They unlocked the cosmic energy of the universe and chased the spirits away from the land. Together they founded Pedersia with Boaz as the leader. In 1914 when the rest of the earth lost its powers, Pedersia was strengthened by the cosmic energy the rest of the world lost. Since then, the descendants of Boaz have ruled peacefully. They were addressed by the title Bohz; a tribute to its founder. Years later, the land flourished more than ever before. To protect the land, Bohz Arjen created the wall of illusion 14 years ago when a human attempted revealing Pedersia’s existence. The princes of Pedersia were often sent as spies to the world to get information. The current Bohz, Arjen was sent in his time and fell in love with a human in Britain. He overstayed the allotted time and was forced to return to Pedersia by his father. It was later discovered that he had a son with the woman. The boy was quickly retrieved and all evidence of his existence eradicated; including his mother. 14 years later, there was fear and anxiety in the land. The heralds flew swiftly ensuring all citizens remained in doors. Herald Lahm was sent to London, the location of the crown prince of Pedersia. He closed his eyes in the palace; then opened them in a small room at Laxford University. The room was empty. “That couldn’t be right” he thought as his eyes scanned around the room. “What are you doing here?” a voice echoed from the room; but no one could be seen. “Your highness, you have to return home immediately” Lahm answered not sure where to look at. “Bo….” He wanted to continue but the voice interrupted him with a chuckle. “I know what is happening at home. It is my curse isn’t it? To see all things” The voice said with a sinister coldness. A young man appeared in the room. His skin was glowing and his eyes were a dark grey. He had dark blonde hair that at times looked brown. “It is not a curse. You were blessed by the universe” Lahm said as he faced the man. “Is my uncle aware?” The man asked as he sat on a chair in the room. “Yes” Lahm replied with worried look. “Then prepare for war” The man said calmly. “He says he is ready to cooperate. He does not wish to ascend “Lahm said. There was a sound, their eyes met as Lahm walked cautiously to the door. He closed his eyes tightly then opened them slowly. “It’s a female” He said. “Jason? Its Anna” A voice said from outside the room. The man walked to the door as Lahm vanished. He opened it slowly. “Anna. How are you?” He said to a girl most likely in her twenties. “Sorry to bother you. There is a job vacancy at the McGayer restaurant down the road. Just thought you would be interested since you are looking for a job” Anna replied as she handed the him a McGayer flyer. “Oh thank you. Really, you didn’t have to” he replied as he took the flyer from her. “You’re Jason Pederson. I can do anything for you. You’re my best friend” Anna said as she placed her hand on his shoulder. “Thank you” Jason replied as he tried to look as grateful as possible. “I have to go now. I won’t forget our lunch tomorrow, you promised to cook remember?” Anna reminded as she moved a step backwards. “Of course, it’s my treat. See you tomorrow then” Jason said as he winked playfully. Anna waved and exited. “Nice girl” Lahm said as he reappeared. “Is the mission aborted? Everything was in order to exterminate subject 1887” Jason asked as he stuck his hand into his pocket to bring out a remote. “The mission must be completed as soon as possible. Your presence is needed in the palace immediately” Lahm explained as he watched Anna walk out of the building to the street. “So you were talking about my uncle” Jason said awaiting a continuation of their past conversation. “He says he does not wish to ascend” Lahm replied as he still watched Anna. She was in her car but it would not start. “I couldn’t care less about his thoughts or sayings. We both know how these things go” Jason replied as walked back to his chair. “It is war when a side decides to engage the other” Lahm said as he ran his fingers on the wooden window frame. Jason remained silent; drumming his fingers on the arm of the chairs. “No. Not even your father would approve” Lahm said disapprovingly. “It’s what is best for Pedersia. Our people don’t have to suffer in a family conflict” Jason replied; his face turned away. “A year on the road has made you heartless” Lahm said with a stern look. “I would call it being realistic” Jason began; now on his feet. “Every time a Bohz dies, his brother wishes to ascend the throne. His brother and child battle for the throne causing the death of thousands. No Bohz has been bold enough to face the problem fearlessly” Jason said as he faced Lahm; his words growing in strength as he uttered them. “It is the first of its kind in history. Are you ready for the consequences?” Lahm asked calmly. “I have completed most of my missions efficiently. Do you know why? I am not a man of conscience. My conscience died with my mother. I am the most powerful being in the universe” Jason said as he looked out of the window to still find Anna trying to start her car. “Don’t boast. You have a long way to go” Lahm instructed as he placed his hand on Jason’s shoulder. Jason turned and smirked. Anna was now standing outside; raising her arms in frustration. “How long have been working on subject 1887?” Lahm asked as he looked through the glass window. “It’s been a year. Slow and steady hurts the most you know” Jason replied as he smiled. “Sometimes I feel bad for them” Lahm said pitifully. “Well, we have no choice. Instruction is our life as they say. Sorry Anna” Jason said feigning sadness. Anna got into her car to try starting it again. Immediately she started the ignition it exploded. “Let’s go home” Jason said then closed his eyes. “Was that Leonie?” Lahm asked with a chuckle. “Yeah” Jason replied.
